I hope my mom caught mama cat last night. She has a standing vet appointment to be spayed. The cat just showed up at mom's very pregnant. She had the kittens just before Harvey so mom brought the kittens in and the mom followed. Only problem, the mama cat won't let anyone get near her.

So do I. But which charger charges which device can be a challenge. I've been labeling chargers to clarify that.

And power connectors are highly non-standard. Life would be much easier if everything used a charger with a standard voltage, and a male USB plug on the charger end and mini-USB on the device end. No such luck.

Palm PDAs were worst offenders. Every model used a different charger and different power connector on the device end. I have a drawer just full of chargers as a result of such nonsense.

My current Android tablet uses USB->mini-USB, but I'd prefer a separate power port. I use a USB external keyboard with it, and I can have it plugged in and charging, or use the keyboard.

I have a mini 4 port USB hub I sometimes use with it. An OTG connector connects the hub to the device. USB keyboard and mouse can connect to the hub, and be seen and used. So can a USB HD, but I need to connect a power adapter to the hub if I do that. The device doesn't have enough power to drive the HD. If I don't have a power adapter connected, the tablet will see the HD and promptly lose it again.

And even if the power adapter is connected to the hub, the tablet won't charge from it. It only charges if the charging cable is plugged directly into the USB port.

My earlier device didn't have Bluetooth. (That was a "design to cost" measure by the manufacturer. It was USB KB or none at all.)

The current device has Bluetooth, but I've never used it. Among other reasons, BT is a major power drain, and I've done various things to reduce the power required by the device in operation.

And I have two USB keyboards. One is part of an integrated tablet case for the tablet. The other is a Logitech portable I use with an OTG connector.

Keyboards aren't conveniently interchangeable. You get used to a particular model (especially if you're a touch typist), and if you have to switch, productivity plummets. Keyboard usage is muscle memory, and your reflexes are wrong because keys aren't in the same places and must be relearned.

No thanks. The last time I replaced a keyboard, I was happy to get the exact same Logitech model as the one I needed to replace.

It looks like today the battle to turn up the heater will start. It has been a cold weekend and during the night we had the first below zero Celsius night. The heater is set to 15C and that's too cold. Because the temperature sensor for the thermostat hangs in the warmest part of the store, at the back. At the front of the store, where the customers go in and out and where I have my workbench it's several degrees colder.

My father doesn't get cold quickly (plus his desk is near the heater) and he always tries to argue with me that I should wear warmer clothes and a bodywarmer. IMHO two t-shirts and a thick cardigan should be warm enough. Plus my body isn't cold, so a body wouldn't work. I get cold legs (wearing jeans), cold feet and cold hands. And when I get cold hands I'm feeling cold all over. Wearing gloves won't work in the store.

Just turning up the heat won't work; my father will turn it down again. What will work is if I wear my coat in the store, my father hates it when I do that.
