(There is color eInk, but it's 12 bit, insufficient for the sorts of things I do, and has only been implemented by one obscure Chinese manufacturer.)

Honestly, I'd love to see a color eInk. I have no idea if I'd use it, but my curiosity on the subject is strong. ;-)

My eyes still prefer eInk for reading, although I don't make a conscious decision when I'm grabbing a reader. If I'm putting something in my purse, it's typically my Voyage, which doesn't have a protective case--for the weight. My purse already weighs quite, quite enough. At home or office, though, truthfully, I grab whichever device is fully charged, from my Okra (god bless that thing!)

What is an Okra?
I understand purse weight.

The New York Times did an article on it in 2010: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/08/te...gy/08ink.html?

The 12 bit limitation is inherent in eInk technology.

The big draw for a lot of folks is vastly greater battery life from eInk devices, as the screen is the largest power drain on mobile devices save Wifi or cellular use. Once a screen has been painted on an eInk device, no power is required to maintain it. LCD devices require a constant trickle of power to maintain the screen. Folks with Kindles reported going weeks without needing to charge the device.

There are various efforts to come up with color displays that have power consumption comparable to eInk. Amazon got asked about color displays for Kindles at an industry event years back. They stated they had no plans to implement color eInk as they didn't feel it would provide a satisfactory experience, and were monitoring other efforts at mobile color. The Kindle Fire is a general purpose tablet with an LCD display.

My normal device is an Android tablet in a keyboard case. I won't fit in a pocket, but if I'm out and carrying it, I'm usually wearing a backpack or shoulder bag it can live in.

I have an old orphan device that has both LCD and eInk screens. It's an interesting concept, but the market wasn't ready when it was made, and the vendor is long out of business.

I've never had a problem reading on a screen, so eInk has no advantage for me. I need color, and I need a multi-purpose device. (My tablet can replace a laptop in a pinch, and has.) I'm not going to carry a tablet and a dedicated eBook reader.

I made it a reflex long ago that things that require charging lived on a charger when not in use. I am not a "My cell phone is about to be out of power!" type, because I take pains to insure that can't happen. (And my cell phone is the smallest, cheapest, least powerful feature phone Samsung makes. All it does is calls and SMS, and that's all I want it to do. Anything else is something else's job. Since it's only connected when placing or receiving calls, power drain is minimal, and I've gone a week between charges.)

LOVE it. Live and die with the thing. Don't have to play the old musical chairs with the USBs, as I used to. They come in different sizes/capacity.

Will I Never, NEVER Learn?

POETS.

So help me G-d, I am NOT making this mistake again. Oh, no. At some point, I got fed up before, and refused to take poetry for a few years. That's when I was smart. Then, someone IMPLORED me. Begged. And I stupidly relented.

And now, I have yet another nightmare of ebookmaking involving--yes, a poet.

Not again. Period. I am SO FED UP with this crap!!!!

A few years back--about 5, I think, now, 2012-13, we finally bit the bullet and got smartphones, giving up our flip-phones. Not because we Facebook or Tweet or video stuff, etc., but primarily because we now live in a rural area, and portable maps are extremely, extremely handy.

Thank you for sharing. I've been looking at a good multi USB charger and this looks like what I've been looking. It isn't easily available, but it looks like Amazon Germany sells it (different brand but looks the same). Now to find the one with the most 2.4A connections.

I just found out Sweetpea had kittens last month. I'm so not happy about that. She swears she will get her spaded next month.

My poor baby, nearly 12 years old. I can't imagine the pain she went through.

I'm not going to ask how your cat ended up with someone else, but there are NUMEROUS free spaying clinics available all over the place. Someone that irresponsible shouldn't have a pet. Sorry, but will that person make sure that the kittens all find good homes? Or will then end up at the Humane Society or Pound, destined for a bad end?

Hitch remember, I had to give her up. She was very ill and I couldn't afford a vet. It was my only option. The person who took her could afford one and got her healthy again so I'm was livid to find out when I was told she would be spaded right away that she had a litter of kittens. I mean it's been almost 9 months since she left here. You would think that's the first thing she would have gotten done after Sweetpea got well.

I declined the offer for a kitten. No pets till I have my own house and can afford a vet.

I think I found one on the German Amazon. It has 5 ports for 5V up to 2.4A and one 5-12V 18W port. The only drawback is that you can't change the width of each "holder". Those are available, but they either only have two 2.4A ports or the overall amps it can handle isn't very high. Also, it doesn't come with short cable, but those can easily be ordered online.

I showed it to my parents and they also want one. I like the storage solution. I now have a stack of devices on my bedside table and if I want to read in the middle of the night I carefully have to extract my Kindle from the pile. Even if I don't need to charge my Kindle it has its place.
