I always leave my Kindles in "aeroplane mode". WiFi and 3G use a lot of power.

I think it was indexing. I've gone a bit mad today and downloaded all my books to it, 1032, plus one audiobook

Yes, the first Oasis was also like this. It's to conserve battery, I assume. I noticed it for the first time today when opening it on the train home from work, having previously used it at lunchtime. On my patterns of usage I'd guess the deeper sleep kicks in after maybe 2-3 hours.

That can't be it, at least not alone. I'm -9.5, -10.75 (and astigmatic, and amblyopic) and I'm completely happy with the lighting conisistency on the Oasis (v1).

It was in ‘store mode’ - Settings access was restricted.

I suppose I could have asked if they could unlock it, but having determined the software was not up to date I didn’t think it was worth bothering anyone. I was also coming off a cold and laryngitis made speaking a little challenging.

Is there really a clearly visible distinct stripe in the middle, with perfectly straight sides?

If so, this is really unpleasant and clearly a grave fault: I don't think we can blame a blown LED: this looks like a faulty light diffuser (perhaps a band with no diffuser applied at all.)

If the photo is a good replica of how it appears in reality, send it back. No lit Kindle should ever look like that.

Even on my Voyage (which I haven't used in 6 months since I got the Oasis 1) I had to swipe the unlock screen 3 or 4 times until it actually worked. I assumed that they ALL had to "awaken" but that the Oasis's software finally changed the text on the screen, so as to mollify users who weren't getting any response to their swipe.

I assumed that the other machines had probably changed their software, to say "waking up" too. Not so? My Voyage certainly used to act like it was waking up, in that it never accepted my first few swipes.

It's a pretty noticeable improvement in screen space over the PW, IMO.

Also, photos don't necessarily capture the back-light tinting very well. My PW is actually very green tinted and the Oasis much closer to white (albeit a warm white, but less warm than it looks in the photo).

I have three fingers around the back, the thumb next to the page turn buttons flush on the front and little finger still underneath. Th e main grip is between thumb and forefinger

No, I think the poster horizontally flipped a section of the image to highlight the left to right lighting difference on that device.
