I was teasing, mostly. I'm not a real fan of holidays that only banking/govt/school employees typically get a day off for, though. If people have to go to work, then that's a "business" day.

One book, one time, correct? That was listed illegally by someone who didn’t have the rights to do so?

Didn’t they compensate customers, and promise to never delete a book from accounts in that manner again?

I think this happened before I bought my first Kindle in 2009.

It was 1984. Published by someone not associated with George Orwell or Orson Welles.

Local news mentioned that Amazon may get into pharmacy biz--maybe that's the big announcement?

I think he's maybe talking about pre-Kindle & pre-Nook when both Amazon and B&N had eBook stores which they closed down and not the 1984 thing?

I haven't heard of Amazon doing that but I remember Barnes and Noble selling ebooks, long before e-ink was a thing. They had a reader for the PC and probably for the Mac and it was needed to download their books. And you could only read them on the PC you downloaded them to.

Then they decided to get out of the business and they announced we had 30 days to make sure all our books were downloaded and they were shutting down their website.

I downloaded my books and 2 or 3 months later I got a new PC but the app was no longer available so the books weren't readable. I personally didn't lose that much; maybe a dozen books and I'd already read them. A lot of people lost a lot more. I learned and important lesson from that.

Adding audio capabilities, so customers can combine their e and audio books.

Kindle and audible apps to be integrated.

Yes, back when Amazon sold eBooks in MS Reader (LIT), Mobipocket, & PDF. This was before eInk Readers. When Amazon stopped selling these eBooks, everyone who had bout them lost access to what they bought.

That's a tad misleading, Jon. Amazon gave people many months' warning, as I recall, and repeatedly advised them to download their purchases, precisely so that they wouldn't lose access to them.

Have the sites that carried the rumour of this press event said what time it's happening at?

No, it's not misleading. The problem is the DRM used was tied to the computer's main hard drive. So if you changed the computer or changed the main hard drive, you lost the book. You hen could not download it again to get updated DRM. Many people did lose access to their eBooks.
