Singer, comedienne and cookbook author. Though you might have trouble with her cookbook. I learned on another website, it is almost impossible for the UK to have access to food that makes southern US cooking. It seems butter, bacon, molasses, corn and bulk sausage is hard to find over there. Oh and Velveeta or processed cheese.
Please tell me the people on that website are wrong.

Well, butter and bacon are no problem. Molasses, I'm sure is available in some places and it depends what type of corn it means. I don't know what bulk sausage or Velveeta are though.

I think our bulk sausage is your sausage meat. Velveeta is processed cheese spread.
Corn: either whole kernel, on the cob or cream style.
What about corn meal or corn flour? (Not cornflour, but very finely ground corn.)

I think all of those are readily available. Perhaps not as ubiquitous as in the States, but I don't think it would be a major problem if you really wanted them.

Oh hey, that cornflour I asked about is actually hard to find in parts of the US. It is rather a regional food.

This was the same forum that literally said ALL American French fries have to be identical to McDonalds french fries even after several Americans told them no, they are not all identical Several of the members tried to tell the Americans exactly how Americans did everything and we didn't know anything about America.
Rather like the maple syrup done in a sugar shack. Someone actually commented that isn't pure maple syrup because you add sugar in a sugar shack. Still argued after being told no. We were told it says sugar so it must be sugar.
Don't even get me started on a southern baked bean recipe and the debauchery it caused.

How are you supposed to make sausage dip or quick chili con queso dip* or mess? Or any number of other predominantly southern recipes? I mean if you have butter, bacon, Velveeta, cornmeal, self-rising flour, milk, eggs, some meat and garden vegetables you can eat high on the hog in the south.
Meat can be anything from beef to squirrel.

*Quick queso dip: Box of Velveeta cubed and a can of Rotel tomatoes, melted together.
Note:I don't like Rotel tomatoes.

When my kids were young, I would make macaroni and cheese from scratch, and only Velveeta would do. But I've not bought it in years. That quick queso is addicting, so I can't have it in the house.

They do sell small boxes of Velveeta now, so you don't have to buy that huge brick.

I once made a double batch of queso dip to take to a party. Also took a loaf of homemade bread.
At the end of the party, we were invited to a come over for a leftover breakfast party the next morning. I walked into the kitchen and there were leftovers of everything except the bread and the dip. The hostess told me that both were gone within 10 minutes of the party starting. (Needless to say I didn't get what I wanted for breakfast.

Velveeta isn't even "cheese spread," because that would mean it's cheese. The FDA cracked down on it and now it's a "cheese product," which is not an FDA classification.

I grant you that it melts nicely, but it's not cheese. Give me real cheese, whether grainy or stringy or blobby when melted.
