Kindle UK time

I've got 3 e-ink Kindles, on all of them the clock is 10 minutes fast, even after sync.

Is anyone else in the UK seeing this?

Unimportant really, it just bugs me.

Rather than syncing, have you tried manually reseting the clocks?

Syncing just sets the date. You need to set the time yourself:

Settings / Device Options / Personalise Your Kindle / Device Time

It's never needed that before, doesn't seem to be an option on a DXG.

Should be there somewhere. Look through the menus. It's buried four levels deep on the Voyage.

Not on a DXG - it sets the system clock from the cell tower it is connected to. *
Or it would if you turned on the wireless.
The clock on the DXG often runs fast, you need to let it correct itself every day or two.

* same-same on the K2 - the small screen DX(G).

That's my point, it DOESN'T correct, even with the wireless on overnight. It can't be just me as it affects all 3 of my DXG's.

Cell tower could be it, if that's off, that would explain it. I'll find out next time I'm going a few miles away.

It should not be the cell tower.
Those systems, like TV networks, should be locked to a national time standard.

Think of it - with your local cell tower 10 minutes off - -
Somebody starts a call there, wanders around, ends at a cell tower that is correct: Whoot, a telephone call billed for ten minutes longer than actual duration.
Nope. Those towers need to be locked to a national standard.

But at the same time - to affect three devices -
it must be something external to the devices that is in common.

If the Kindles are jail broken, you could add-in a 'set data and time' menu item.
That will set both the date and time from your national time standard servers.

It has been a long time since I wrote it but twobob had a DXG at the time and I am pretty sure he tested it.

Not jail broken, never saw the point.

I had always assumed it came from an Amazon server when it connected, but if no one else is seeing this, it must be something else.

Never mind, no big deal anyway. I only noticed it when I used "Kindle time" to correct the clock in my reading room, then noticed it was out.

My PW2 is never internet connected - I sideload everything. To set the time, I go to menu - settings - device options - device time (where I set the time). It works perfectly. You must have a way of doing this in aeroplane mode on your Kindle iteration.

The devices in question are DXG models.
Do not assume that the series 2.x firmware provides the same features as the series 5.x firmware.

Besides the DX(G) (and its small screen version, the K2) are all 3G only.
The 3G protocol provides current date/time information.

I do not recall if the series 2.x firmware includes the set date/time searchbar command.
I am pretty sure it is not provided by the GUI.
(Which is why I wrote the set date/time add-in.)

Got them corrected; hard reboot, then connect to Wireless did it. Still don't know why they went wrong, but never mind.

My phone does that at times. It thinks it is in Greenwich.

Your locale information (or at least the time zone part) is getting lost or is missing in the first place.

Ah, I am assuming an Android 'phone here.
Android == Google's distribution of Linux == a variation on Unix == hardware clock runs UTC (time zone 0), displayed time is modified by the locale setting(s).
