That's unbelievable!
I bought Kobo Aura One yesterday. Everything was fine and I updated the firmware to the latest one. I turn off the wifi, the light and the automatic sync. But, the battery went from 100% to 0% in one day without any reading. That's ridiculous and annoying.

Yes, I sideloaded a lot of big epubs (complete works). But I never heard of the indexing things of Kobo. Is it really the indexing that drain the battery. Can we check it?

If you are putting on a lot of eBooks or a good number of rather large eBooks, then you want to leave it plugged into a USB port or USB wall wart until the processing is done.

Thanks for the Information. But how can I know whether the processing of indexing is over?

Kobo does not index like a Kindle. There is a process where each book is identified and adding to the database, but that's generally finished within a few minutes.
However, it's not unknown for a problematic book (usually some kind of data corruption) to cause part of this process to get stuck, causing battery drain. As Kobos don't have any kind of cpu monitor, checking for this is more a process of trial and error. But first is to check if simply recharging and rebooting the device works as normal. |

Some people in the forum said that the new firmware has a bug which could cause the battery to discharge quickly. That would be a cause too. Now the thing is that I can not identify where the problem is.

S, after an update, the KA1 has been known to discharge completely once or twice.
Recharge it and it will probably be fine. . . . . . Pete |

Thanks! I think you have experience. As I found it, the battery was empty and I cound not do anything but to charge it. I am afraid that the battery will be harmed (or damaged?), since it was fully discharged (or maybe not fully, but Kobo asks you to charge it before it goes totally empty).

S, as I said before, everything if probably fine. Just recharge it and if it happens another time then recharge it again.
In the unlikely event that it continues to happen, then do a factory reset. Your battery should be fine. . . . . . Pete |

Just to affirm petercreasey's point: there is a bug in the firmware which causes this. In addition to happening just after an upgrade, I've also sometimes had it happen after a sync. The solution is to power the device off completely and reboot. You may need to do this twice.
Your battery won't be harmed, as the bug doesn't lead to a deep discharge. |

Thank you. After the complete discharge that I mentioned in this thread I recharged it, it didn't happened again. But I still worry about it. I hope Kobo will soon fix the bug in their new firmware. It seems the acutal firmware was released long time ago.

Li-ion batteries can get damaged if they are used until there's no charge left. To prevent that electronic devices shut down with an empty battery warning before the battery reaches that point. As long as both the device and the battery are not defect the only way to deep-discharge is to let the device sit without a charge for a long time.
