Complete newbie in need of help to get Play Store on Carta2
Hi,
I just got an Onyx Carta 2 (Plus?) and I can't figure out how to get the Google Play Store into it so that I can install apps. I have tried searching online and in this forum, but what I have found goes way over my head. Can someone please help me figure out/explain to me what to do? I have firmware 1.8.2 2017-04-13_18-06 769de99 |

Update:
I have tried updating the firmware to both older versions (1.7.5 and 1.8.1) and newer (a build from May, I think), but the Carta doesn't find them. It just says "No update package available" when I push "check update from local storage" and this happens both when I transfer it from my computer to the e-readers internal storage and when I transfer it to an empty SD-card. Have no idea if I'm doing anything wrong or what to try next... |

It's quite surprising, that your reader comes without the play store. Onyx did release firmware package without google apps a couple of times, but not 1.8.2 as far as I remember. Please excuse me for double-checking it, but are you sure there's no play store in the list of the apps: home screen - application - play store? But I assume you have double-checked it already
![]() First of all, could you please verify the model name: it's printed on the backside of the reader and can be found in the settings: home screen - menu - settings - about - about device - model number Get the latest update for your reader from http://120.76.193.63/index.php/en/support/firmware, download update.zip and copy it into the reader. I usually take external sd-card away just in case, and use the root folder of the internal memory: \sdcard\update.zip. You don't need to unpack the file. Detach the reader from the computer. Finally go to home screen - settings - about - system update - check from local storage I hope these steps will help you solve the issue. Please don't hesitate to ask here if you have any other questions. You could also try contacting the customer service: sales@onyx-international.com |

Sorry to go a bit more technical, and I am sure you will be better off with Google Play if you want to use standard application install management, but:
if you visit a mainstream (high ranked, not obscure) "apk download" website, pick your app, download the .apk file and open it on the tablet - what happens? It should install. |

Yes, I have double checked and it's just not there ![]() I have a C67ML carta 2 according to the backside. Same in the model number, except it says plus in the end. I've tried installing the last firmware according to that method, but the e-reader never finds it. I have then gone into storage and manually started it that way, but it fails after a short while (installation aborted or something like that) |

It installs, but the ones that matter doesn't work properly due to lack of Google Services. I guess I could install those as well, but I hope I can find a way to get the Play Store really Last edited by nordvest; 07-01-2017 at 04:03 PM. |

I finally got it to install new firmware! I probably downloaded the wrong new one first in all the confusion (perhaps for Carta plus or for carta 2 without the plus).
And now the Play Store is there ![]() Thank you both for your help, much appreciated! |

For public information: which firmware, which did contain the Play Store, did you install? (Which code, like the one you reported earlier?) |

Glad you found the solution
FYI C67ML, C67ML Carta, C67ML Carta2, C67ML Carta+ and C67ML Carta2+ are different models. The official source for firmware updates is http://120.76.193.63/index.php/en/support/firmware |

EXACT SAME PROBLEM Happened to me
I just received my BOOX C67 from Bangood yesterday and spent the afternoon trying to figure out why no play store. But I did the update suggested here and it worked like a charm ever since. Obviously there is a problem in the production line that needs attention. THANK YOU to the people who posted in this thread and saved my sanity!
