On 2.99.8 I still have this issue - if I add a format file to an existing book, it doesn't appear on the running server. It looks like it can be overcome by refreshing the site. I can do that via a Library Switch, but what if I only have one library. Or I can do it by restarting the browser, assuming I know how to do that.**
Maybe a site refresh 'button' is needed.

@BR Hitting refresh in the browser should be enough for this. In general, the browser UI is not live. If you make any metadata changes in calibre the changes will not appear in the browser until you refresh.
If hitting refresh does not work, let me know. |

@BR: I know of no way for a webpage to open a file on the local computer. Or even to get the browser to display the file open dialog after downloading reliably.

![]() ![]() I was led astray in part by the fact that I'm using Chrome for testing, and by the message I've seen after installing a new version asking if I wanted to 'refresh/restore/reload/re????' the site. Is that going to happen in the real version 3.0? Quote:

Refreshing the webpage just loads the latest version of the library content the server is serving, which may be the same, or may include database changes you have made. The reloading the site popup means update the javascript that powers the offline reader. This happens whenever you update to a new version of calibre, or pull new changes to your source checkout with Development mode -- assuming that the new calibre code contains updated *.pyj source files that got compiled into an updated version of the calibre-server javascript. @BR: As escwartz said, the popup that appears about updating the calibre application refers to updating the javascript calibre uses in the browser. Think of it as updating the tiny calibre application that lives in your browser. It will apear only once the first time you access the server after a calibre update. Of course, right now since the calibre updates are coming thick and fast, it will seem like it appears all the time.
@eschwartz: No can't say I have heard from jelle -- it has always been on my TODO list to unbundle the un-modified stuff once the new calibre build system was in operation. hunspell is modified, see commit da7ef93e27 chardet long predates the upstream chardet (IIRC it came from firefox originally). tinycss is modified. templite I dont know about (it was used by someone else's code in calibre). odpy I tried to upstream way back when, without success. Can't say I am particularly inclined to spend time trying again. |

One error in the log looked like it happened during translation, when the template formatter was returning an error message. Do the errors go away if you run calibre in English? I tried running in German and everything worked. |

Yes, that works, and I'm sure you have mentioned it earlier in the thread.
Unfortunately, the download links don't work. Tapping them just refreshes the screen. The server log shows the request was received. There must be something about the response the browser doesn't like. Are there more detailed logs I can look at? |

And IIRC it's a browser issued message, which probably means it can't be made more comprehensible. Or better yet perhaps, suppress it entirely. Why would a regular user ever respond with No. BR |
