I use Google Images for Covers.
If you select from the results (with size label), you get a small version. You need to click that, then you get the full sized one.

When I find an image I want, I select it. If it's too large, I left-click on the image size in the upper right (1900 x 1068 - see below). That takes me to a page of that image in multiple sizes. I then select one that adheres to MR guidelines.

Try How do I find the pixel size of a photo?

Colleague just showed me an iPad app called Photo Investigator - it appears to show exif and iptc metadata - which includes size in pixies.

Most of the images I see posted are screen shots, so the OP can more easily upload to MR while they're composing their post instead of uploading it to some crappy ad infested image host, copying the full size link and putting that into their post.

I can't recall anyone ever posting a thumbnail from an external image host, even if the image host used provides thumbnail links. Posting full size images is much the same as typing thread titles in capitals - narcissistic, I change upper case titles to title case.

@theducks - I'm with you - MR thumbnails only, the exception is in PM's where you're forced to use an external host - even then I use a thumbnail.

The forum software should reduce the image size with the ability to click on the image to get the full size.

Thanks. That at least gives me a way to know how large a photo on my iPad is. Now if I only had an app that let me resize to a given proportion the way Photoshop or even Paint does on a pc.

I don't use an iPad, so I'm not sure if which apps work on it, but a search on 'Resize my pictures' in the App Store appears to show several, including at least one free.

Use the "Manage Attachments" button to upload your image as an attachment. It will then appear as a a thumbnail. You need to be in the "Advanced" editor to do this.
