Kindle Firmware 5.8.8

For me, it only happens maybe 1 of 20 lookups, if that.

But I wonder if it happens more when content is being indexed in the background (typically this happens when a new update is applied, or new content is downloaded).

Another item that gets indexed is My Clippings, and if that has gotten big, then it takes longer to index, and that can affect responsiveness of things. Now that there is a Note export feature, I wish there were a way to turn off the My Clippings feature. It is not really needed any more, except perhaps for side-loaded content or in those (for me) rare instances when you want to find a note that you wrote.

I like the My Clippings file! I don't want to export Notes, so I didn't even know that feature existed. But I like to use the My Clippings file to tell me when I finished which book. I then transfer that info to my "My Readings" file (on my computer) and delete the My Clippings file. This way it never gets too big. It'll re-create itself the next time I bookmark a page. You should try Export Notes and see if it works for you. It does not export Bookmarks (use a highlight or note), and it is not available for 'Docs' (on Kindle - but is iOS/Android/Fire it works with Docs as well), but it is convenient.

I understand there are workflows people have around My Clippings (like yours), but it's always been too limited for me to use (I don't do all of my reading on a Kindle).

To the extent that I 'track reading' I use Goodreads. Again I don't do all my reading with Amazon's ecosystem, much less a single Kindle.

It's alive!!!

I left it plugged 3 days and then unplugged because I was leaving for summer holidays. I went back 2 weeks later and it had no battery, I plugged it again and it returned to the same spot. Tried to reset it again with no result.

So... I kept looking at it every day, pluggin in, resetting, trying to get it to appear as a device on my PC with no results. Also, as I didn't had it allways plugged to power it would get to no battery pretty often (the screen was always on).

Finally, I decided to give it a last chance, leaving it always plugged to power and started looking for a replacement. Yesterday, or 3 or 4 days since I plugged it again, I woke up to find my PW3 showing some ad for a bad book and I can't express how happy I'm.

As some of you had said on a lot of other posts I read, it fixed itself... I couldn't believe that would work, but 1 week later I've a Kindle again! It's time to start reading every book that I thought this month I wouldn't have a chance to read until I could buy a new one...

Edit: I just did a factory reset settings because the kindle wasn't showing any book cover (even on goodreads). And now it's working flawlessly.

That is the symptom of the flash storage behind what you see over USB developing bad blocks.

Keep a copy of everything on your Kindle somewhere else as a backup.
If you purchase books from Amazon, those are already backed up in your account cloud.

After all of the times you pushed: "Reset (to factory defaults)" your Kindle should now be empty of anything it had on it before this adventure.
