* WiFi ap scan.sh and dhcp.sh will enable WiFi. WiFi will work in KSM and will appear as already enabled and working when launching KOReader.

* WiFi manage networks and WiFi static.sh load sdio and dhd, but WiFi doesn't work. I get exit_code:_1 when running accuweather. The only way to get WiFi working then is selecting wifi disable and then WiFi enable dhcp. WiFi ap scan will load sdio and dhd but WiFi won't work.

Yes, you were right, static.sh didn't work before either with my router. I have just installed patch 4d.
Thank you for checking. That confirms that with reference to wifi, the patched version of KSM does its job as well or badly as the unpatched version did, the important difference being that it works also for more recent FW versions.

I have just installed the patch from https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...&postcount=221, on my Kobo Aura HD FW 4.3.8842,
After installing KSM v08 successfully.
Now, I am unable to start KSM (Nickell starts directly).
What should I do?

Edit: I reinstalled, and edited .adds\kbmenu_user\runsettings.txt manually, and now KSM boots normally.

Hi tshering,

Can you make a nickel refresh image trigger (like exit nickel, power off), so it will only do "half" exit nickel, so it will activated the tile remove trigger, so it will have the same affect as exit nickel open nickel.

Did you see this note in the first post?
Quote:
KSM is by default configured to run only after every second reboot, and nickel automatically runs after every other second reboot. This is a kind of security measure in case KSM does not properly run after installation (something that cannot be excluded with future firmwares or changed hardware). After KSM has started the first time, please change this behaviour:
select "tools" > "activate" > "set runmenu settings.msh" > "always"
Maybe you selected "never" instead of "always".

I am not sure how to understand "nickel refresh image trigger" and "tile remove trigger." Does the effect that you wish happen, when you exit nickel and start it again?

Tile remove trigger - mean to Kobo Utilities "Dismiss tiles from tiled home screen", it have a trigger option that it will set tiles show as false in the sqlite file, but on most tiles it only works when you do reboot, exit nickel or connect to PC.

What I what is a way to do "nickel refresh", so the tiles will removed from the home screen.

I have a suggestion too, that could be related to the previous comment.
I sometimes sideload books in KSM through USB to read them on KOReader, but when I start Nickel, if I want to see these books, I have connect the Kobo again to the computer and cross fingers and hope that when I disconnect from the PC, Kobo will notice the changes and start to process the books that I sideloaded from KSM.
Could it be possible to add a script, launched from a tile, that would force Kobo to start processing books without needed to connect before to the computer?

Sorry, I wanted to say: "This is exactly what I would have done too." I actually still have the one from the first post of the kobo night mode threat working.

KSM does provide something for that purpose. I did not use it very often myself, and it did not work each and every time. Be aware that some people are of the opinion that it can create some damage. You can find a description of how to do it here. In our case the instruction "run the script" translates to "open simulate_usb_connection.png in nickel." There is somewhere a more detailed description and discussion, but I am unable to find it right now.
If you try it be aware that it is important, that the device is NOT connected to the pc with an usb cable.

Thanks, I tried and it works.
First time it didn't work but next three times worked.
I guess that if a computer and USB wire are around is better to use them and do it the traditional way. But if there aren't, this script is handy.

The one who downloaded the first test package, do not try it! does not work as expected!

What I what is a way to do "nickel refresh", so the tiles will removed from the home screen.
  • copy KoboRoot.tgz into .kobo; safely eject; disable usb
  • handle update > install update
  • start nickel
  • connect to pc and disconnect (in order to read the new restart_nickel.png into the database)
  • open restart_nickel.png; close it; visit it in the library; add it to a collection if you like
  • exit nickel
  • select "user scripts" > "start nickel for restart.sh"
  • open restart_nickel.png in order to restart nickel
If this does what you want, we have to adjust some other scripts of KSM to make it safe. Until then please open restart_nickel.png in nickel ONLY, if you started nickel by "user scripts" > "start nickel for restart.sh" (apart from the first time, when you install the test package). Otherwise you might get into troubles.
