This reminds me of that game we use to play in elementary school. Actually it was more of a lesson than a game, but always fun none the less. The teacher would have the class of 30 kids arrange their chairs in a large circle. She would then whisper a simple sentence into the ear of the first student. We were instructed to quietly and discreetly pass the sentence along verbatim to the next student. When the last student received the sentence, the teacher would have her/him share it aloud with all of us. Then laughter would erupt as every one of us likely heard something different passed along. The teacher would then reveal what the sentence had originally been, and the lesson was learned about how humans tend to hear things inaccurately. I think our brains hear what they want to and we likely substitute words more to our liking. Or perhaps we are just goofy when it comes to hearing. Seeing too. If 100 people witness a crime, the investigators will likely get 100 unique reports. Some might be accurate, some close, some not even close, some just bizarre. Prosecutors don't like to rely on eyewitness accounts because they are not very convincing especially when they contradict each other.

You mean it's not? all these years I've been singing it wrong.

When I was a boy, I believed the imagery of my thoughts was reflected on the irises of my eyes and that unscrupulous people could thereby know what I was thinking with almost no effort at all.

Oooo, that would be an interesting novel! And a very open and unhidden world.

Ouch! Yep I think I blocked out of my memory a lot of booboos I did, but nothing that bad! My brother Derryl was accident proned. We made a lot of trips to the ER with him, and those trips were usually because of self-inflicted wounds due to lack of common sense on his part, although sometimes I was the cause. I sliced him open one day with a kitchen steak knife. It was an accident. I was mimicking Errol Flynn's swashbuckler movie character. That is my story anyway and I'm sticking to it! I also went to scare him one day by pretending to shoot him in the butt with a BB gun. He was being an annoying older brother. As he turned to walk down the stairs I put what I thought was an unloaded Daisy BB rifle up to his butt and squeezed the trigger. It was loaded and cocked and he flinched and then lost his balance and rolled down the staircase! Another time he crept up behind me and hit me in the back of the head with a toy water pistol. He thought because it was a water pistol and made of plastic that it wouldn't hurt. Toys don't hurt, right? He saw this many times on the Mannix TV detective show where Mannix was always getting hit in the back of the head with a revolver by various bad guys. Anyway it did hurt, so I picked up a some object and smacked him with it. It knocked him out. Didn't mean to hit him that hard, but again, he deserved it. It is kind of amazing any of us brothers lived to see adulthood.

I was not lucky enough to get involved in such activities as I was the only child of my parents , but in my childhood, I had two friends, identical twins, and I was used to see them wounded and bandaged alternatively. They terribly loved each other!

We loved each other too, we just got carried away with the ruff-housing. Mom would yell the following phrase at us a lot, especially my older two brothers because they fought with each other every day, "If you boys don't stop fighting in there I'll come finish the fight for you!" She would give about three warnings before the whole house started to shake as Momzilla awoke and stomped her way into the fight zone, and she definitely was able and willing to cause more pain than we caused to each other!

When I was younger**, I thought the last bits in Fleetwood Mac's "The Chain" were "Shame, here comes the devil". Then I had a radio which displayed the title, and learned that the line was "Chain, keeps us together". Huh. Who'da thunk?

** ummm, up to 2 days ago younger. Like, this past Monday.

I was listening to Toto's Africa on Pandora when I heard this:

Quote:
It's gonna take a lot to take me away from you
There's nothing that a hundred men on Mars could ever do
I always wondered about that line, but that is what I've always heard. So I looked it up as the Pandora app displays the lyrics. This is what they are singing:

Quote:
It's gonna take a lot to take me away from you
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
That definitely makes more sense!

BTW, I still hear men on Mars even though I know that is incorrect. And I still hear "I guess the rains down in Aftrica" even though I know that is incorrect too!

I recently read Chrissie Hynde's memoir Reckless in hopes of gaining insight into just why the heck she was standing in the middle of the road with her pants behind her.

Middle Of The Road by the Pretenders.
