database not supported in Calibre

Hi, I'm using a Kobo Aura HD reader for 2 years with Calibre. Firmware was always set up to date and the reader runs the last official 3.19.5761 from months. To day, Calibre (v2.74 x64) shows me an error during metadata update at device connection: WARNING: Failed: Kobo database version unsupported - See detailsI did not change the firmware version recently and all was working fine until now. If it's possible, I don't want to reset my reader now to fix this. Your Kobo is running an updated firmware/database version. As calibre does not know about this updated firmware, database editing is disabled, to prevent corruption. You can still send books to your Kobo with calibre, but deleting books and managing collections is disabled. If you are willing to experiment and know how to reset your Kobo to Factory defaults, you can override this check by right clicking the device icon in calibre and selecting "Configure this device" and then the "Attempt to support newer firmware" option. Doing so may require you to perform a factory reset of your Kobo. Device database version: 131. Device firmware version: (3, 19, 5761) Any advice, please, to solve this problem ? Regards, Eric |

Just do as it says. Check the Attempt to support newer firmware box. I hate to be rude but the message says exactly what needs to be done. |

Hi and thanks for your quick reply. I did what the message said and error message has gone. I was just a bit afraid of the factory reset mentioned. Just one more question : Should I let the "Attempt to support newer firmware" option set every time now or may I disable it ? [Edit] Nevermind, I get the answer by myself. I'll let it checked ;-) [/edit] Regards, Eric Last edited by Infernoweb; 12-20-2016 at 11:34 AM. |

If anyone have an explanation of this, i'll be glad to know it [edit] I think the reason is linked with this https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...34&postcount=9 Updating Kobo Desktop to latest version and connecting the device should have changed the database version number that's not already supported by Calibre.[/edit] Last edited by Infernoweb; 12-20-2016 at 12:36 PM.

Trust me... If ever a version of f/w or Desktop is released that breaks the "Attempt to support newer firmware" option you'll see posts here alerting people.

. And that hasn't happened since I got my first Aura HD, back when that was the hot new thing. I've been running with 'Attempt to support newer firmware' enabled since then.
