Hello, what I shock! I was so happy to install the Calibre 2.0 on my Mac this morning only to find out that it no longer supports Snow Leopard???? This is the most stable OS Apple ever made. Anything after that will crash, Maverick is not as half as stable. Any Mac user knows that, just google. I am not upgrading my exceptionally stable system for Calibre. You're losing a fan. Sorry man! |

I believe you will find it is not Kovid's decision here, but rather a lack of support from QT5 (the underlying graphic toolkit used by calibre) for Snow Leopard.

Indeed, Qt 5 dropped support for OS X older than 10.7, nothing I can do about it.

Thank you for your clarification. It is a pity indeed. I enjoy your program immensely, thank you for creating something so beautiful. I'll stay at the 1.48 Release. M. |

Sure, you are welcome to stay with 1.48 if you feel like it, calibre upgrades are never compulsory. However, on a general note, using an OS which no longer gets security updates from its manufacturer is a very dangerous thing.

Update found: 2.2.0 see Attachement. There is no need to show it then and its irritating. I downloaded it, installed it and noticed that not working. So I had to go back to 1.48, redownload this, installed it again. In vain. I guess many other OS 10.6 user lost the same time. Should be possible to check the OS version for calibre, I guess. Possible to change that? Thank! EDIT: by the way, thank a lot for this great peace of opensource premium software, use it often and its just perfect, already 1.48 is perfect thank!!! | |

Use Preferences -> Behavior, uncheck, apply and save.

This is unchecked, not that I mean. You could see in my previous screenshot that the CheckBox was unchecked. This CheckBox is even worse, would popup a MsgBox if an update were available. I mean attached screenshot 2, the notice down right. I mean, Calibre could easily check, if this update is applicable or not. If not, no update message or notice at all is shown (see my previous screenshot). If yes, the user could decide if he wants a simple notification in the main window (see my previous screenshot) or even a PopUp Message. Look, this my setting, see attached 1. EDIT: but If I think right, this bug must be fixed in 1.48, which is unfortunately not anymore under construction. So Kovid could you please get it shortly out of the drawer and just fix this little unbeautiness? E.g.: Textfield UdateAvailableTxt = IsOSVersionCompatible() ? GetActualVersion() : "" Last edited by franc; 09-09-2014 at 03:32 PM. |
