New Overdrive coming and it is awful

Check your library periodically. I lost a loan because no email was sent notifying me. I got others but not this one. This has never happened before the change to the new look.

So, you say your library (consortium?) has 7 copies. Maybe your specific library bought 5 of the 7 copies available to users of that Overdrive site. So even though you're 174th in line, you have specific access to the 5 copies that not all the other users in line have.

It's just a guess - I've never been able to tell when I'm in line if I've been bumped because of an advantage to someone else in line. I have occasionally moved back in line, but it's rare enough I've just assumed I didn't enter the number in my tracking spreadsheet correctly in the first place. It could be for the most part, my libraries are the ones most likely to buy advantage, so I usually have the benefit.

What I've calculated is that if the library allows 3-week borrowing, you could be waiting for about 5 years.

Thanks for the warning. I've always relied on email to let me know when a hold was available. I guess I'd better start checking the library every day just in case.

I have a really bizarre holds info:

There are (at most) 7 people ahead of you in line.

Total holds: 7
Your holds position: #1 on 1 copy

If I am number one in the holds position for one copy why would there be anything other than zero or one person ahead of me?


Edit: here's another from the same library that makes sense.

There are (at most) 2 people ahead of you in line.

Total holds: 17
Your holds position: #2 on 13 copies

Yes this is what I get now from my library, only the further and more meaningful info is an extra click away. Why, Overdrive, why?

It's hard browsing through my wish list because the book covers are so large now! My eyesight isn't great, but it's not *that* bad....

Maybe it's random now. I have a few that do makes sense but most don't. I'm thinking it's no longer first come first serve but they just mash you into the line somewhere.

I had an interesting issue. On Tuesday I borrowed a book and the borrow button changed from Borrow to Go to Loans. I went to loans and it was not there. Go back to the book's listing and it showed like it was borrowed. Today I went back to the library to check and it was there in the loans. Very odd.

I had a similar experience; it might even have been the same library.

Try refreshing the page. I had a book with no download link and that fixed it for me.

Well, isn't that just dandy. I have several libraries. There's not a hint which one this overly chummy library is. Before, all my libraries identified themselves in the header (fortunately most still do, or I'd be even more clueless). Yet another improvement that isn't.
