It's just slightly over 3 hours long. Not much bang for the buck, if you evaluate books and audiobooks that way.

I didn't go to the Amazon book page, but it's hard to see how the audio could be so short. I've seen the book in thrift stores numerous times and it was pretty thick. I'm wondering if, when they did the "reissue," that they did some cutting-out of material too. Might not be a bad idea--profiles of people like John Quincy Adams can get mighty boring mighty quickly (I bought a full-length audiobook about him one time, and tried to listen to it, so I know).

The version of Wuthering Heights I already had, narrated by Anne Flosnik, comes in halfway between the two new freebies.

Since both of the new freebies are Whispersynced to a specific text, there shouldn't be any variation in text or intros, commentary, etc. The only variable should be the narrator's speed.

Profiles in Courage is generally believed to have been written by JFK's speechwriter Ted Sorensen.

The Audible offering is marked as an abridged version.

Thanks for catching that. I try to note abridged versions and missed this one.

I added a note to my post.

Both posts were very helpful. Thanks. I'm overdue for giving you karma, but it's headed your way.

I had that one too. Now I have three versions. It's a pity I can't swap two of them for Whispersync books I don't have yet.

I actually had a separate (mostly unused) Amazon/Audible account that I have started to use to hold my free WS titles that are duplicates, just so I don't clutter up my primary Audible account with repeats. I may go back and listen some day, but at the rate I'm going on audiobooks it's not likely.

That is a fear of mine. While I'm careful to always look and verify a $0.00 price before ever clicking "buy", glitches happen. So I always plan to check my email receipts to make sure I wasn't charged. Of course I'm about 50,000 emails behind in checking those emails.....

But yes, I went back and checked my invoice on that one and it was free just before my post.

I need to start doing that. I give Amazon/Audible enough of my money without sending them some that I don't owe them.

I wonder if the opposite can happen--i.e., a person clicks on a button to pay say, regular price, but he or she hasn't refreshed his or her browser and ends up getting it cheaper?

I always look at my invoices immediately after ordering anything online, and that includes free stuff.

Audible UK Daily Deal -- exp 03 Nov @ 11:59 PM GMT

£2.99 -- Zero Day -- David Baldacci/ Ron McLarty, et al --> 13.1 hrs/ R-4.2 --> suspense

Quote:
Zero Day --> John Puller Series (book 1 of 4)

Whispersync: Audible (£2.99) | Kindle (£4.74)

John Puller is a former war hero and now the best military investigator in the U.S. Army's Criminal Investigative Division. He is a loner with few possessions by preference, but he has an indomitable spirit and an unstoppable determination for finding the truth. His father was the most decorated U.S. Marine in history, but now resides in a nursing home far from his battlefield glory. Puller's older brother, also a military vet, is serving a life sentence in Leavenworth Penitentiary. Puller is called out to a remote, rural area far from any military outpost to investigate into the brutal murder of a family in their home. The dead husband was in the army and the wife worked for a Pentagon contractor. The local homicide detective, a woman with personal demons of her own, clashes with Puller over the investigation. What neither of them knows is what is waiting for them across the street from the murdered family's home. It is something that will turn an already complicated case on its head. As Puller digs through deception after red herring, he realizes that absolutely nothing, and nobody, he's so far seen in this small town, are what they seem. He is truly one man against an overwhelming force.

Yes, but you're exceptional.

About what percentage of the purchases end up having higher prices than the prices on the screen?
