Whew! I'm glad that we don't have the problem of a dark heart of politics here in the United States.

Weird indeed. I wonder what happened?

Anyway, thanks for catching this version. I missed it. I'll add it to the OP and my post so people can get both versions.

I can think of (well, you thought of one) four possibilities:
1. Narrator talks faster.
2. One is a modest abridgment.
3. The speed of one audio has been electronically increased.
4. Stated length of one is a typo.

$2.95 -- Profiles in Courage -- John F Kennedy/ JF Kennedy Jr, et al --> 3.2 hrs/ R-4.7 --> ethics

Quote:
Note: this version is abridged. Audible doesn't sell a full-length version.

Whispersync: no deals at this time

"This is a book about that most admirable of human virtues - courage. 'Grace under pressure', Ernest Hemingway defined it. And these are the stories of the pressures experienced by eight United States senators and the grace with which they endured them." (John F. Kennedy)

During 1954-1955, John F. Kennedy, then a US senator, chose eight of his historical colleagues to profile for their acts of astounding integrity in the face of overwhelming opposition. These heroes include John Quincy Adams, Daniel Webster, Thomas Hart Benton, and Robert A. Taft.

Awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1957, Profiles in Courage - now reissued, featuring a new introduction by Caroline Kennedy as well as Robert Kennedy's foreword written for the memorial edition of the volume in 1964 - resounds with timeless lessons on the most cherished of virtues and is a powerful reminder of the strength of the human spirit. It is, as Robert Kennedy states in the foreword, "not just stories of the past but a hook of hope and confidence for the future. What happens to the country, to the world, depends on what we do with what others have left us".

$4.95 -- Ella, the Slayer --AW Exley/ Gabrielle de Cuir --> 8.4 hrs/ R-4.4 --> YA fantasy

Quote:
Ella, the Slayer --> Serenity House Series (book 1 of 3)

Whispersync: Audible ($2.99) | Kindle ($3.99)

The flu pandemic of 1918 took millions of souls within a few short weeks. Except it wasn’t flu, and death gave them back.

Seventeen-year-old Ella copes the best she can by caring for her war-injured father, scrubbing the floors, and slaying the undead that attack the locals. Like rats, these vermin spread pestilence with every bite. Ella’s world collides with another when she nearly decapitates a handsome stranger—one who is very much alive.

Seth deMage, the new Duke of Leithfield, has returned to his ancestral home with a mission from the War Office: control the plague of vermin in rural Somerset. He needs help; he just didn’t expect to find it in a katana-wielding scullery maid.

Working alongside Seth blurs the line between their positions, and Ella glimpses a future she never dreamed was possible. But in overstepping society’s boundaries, Ella could lose everything—her home, her head, and her heart.

Another possibility: an introduction or commentary from a literature professor or historian. I had a version of "Frankenstein" that caused nearly a 1 hour pooch for this reason.

Another possibility is 2 different versions of the text by the author. "The Picture of Dorian Gray" got me with this one.

The reason that I'm making this post is to let you know that the Audible narration is only $3.47, so the total for the whole Whispersync deal is only $3.47 right now.

The book has just 129 pages, and the audible book at Audible is only $13.08, so ordinarily I wouldn't consider this deal a good enough value to post. However, the ratings on the ebook, at least, are outstanding, so I thought that I would let you all know about it. It has an average 4.8 stars at Amazon, but from only 19 reviews at the present time. At GoodReads, the average rating is an outstanding about 4.65, from 6 ratings at the present moment.

Here's the webpage at Amazon for the book.

The reason that I'm not making a complete post, with the whole template thing and all, is that it is time-consuming and I'm just not feeling well at the present moment.
I bought the kindle book for free not ten minutes ago, but your post made me reconsider adding the whispersync. Clicked on it again and the ebook appears to be back to full price of $5.95.

President Kennedy was an intelligent and articulate man. However, I can't help but think that there was a ghost writer. I feel certain that Kennedy selected the individuals (were there any women among the people selected? Well, it was a different country then than it is today . . . .), but someone else did the research and writing.

I'm much more confident that some celebrities today who crank out full-length books, with their names in the bylines, about every 3 months or so, employ others to "help" them. There is no way that they could do all else that they do and research (if necessary) and write a book. If so, I'm sure that there are lots of doctoral candidates who would love to know their secrets to help them produce their dissertations.

This has piqued my interest. I'm going to Google and see if there are any websites that identify ghost writers for various books.

Blame GARussell, for not posting it earlier, not me. hahahaha In all honesty, I genuinely regret that.

Are you sure that you got the ebook for free? It sounds like the webpage may not have been refreshed or something and, that before you clicked a second time, it did. Just a thought.
