While she could've approached her answer from a myriad of directions, she chose to celebrate the sexy. Me, I read for the relationship, and tend to skim over a lot of the physical stuff especially in audio format.

Y'all probably have heard me say I'm a TTS fan. If no one is home I'll use the Echo for TTS for Kindle books, sometimes an Android app sent to the Echo if it's not a kindle book. I prefer not to listen that way if hubby or son are around with some authors...

Nor do I understand why you are so disheartend about it? what anyone else reads had zero impact on you or your life. One of the benefits of marriage is supposedly having sex, but so many women choose to have a disconnect of that fact with their reading material, then make a point of proclaiming I read them just for the romance. All that tells me is that they have bought into the negative stereo type of other peoples opinion of the genre and feel that they have to justify what they are reading. Me, I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU THINK! What I read, is for my pleasure not yours, you have nothing to do with it, and even less to say about it if you're smart. What's more is I don't care what you read either, I'm too busy enjoy my own sexy books to be thinking about whatever it is that you're reading. People need to learn to live and let live. Life would be so much more pleasant. Last edited by cfrizz; 09-30-2016 at 11:16 PM. |

I think for me, I like sensuality in books, but a lot of the newer stuff has no heart in it. The sex has to be part of the couple adventure, the story, it has to be one. So many of the scenes feel tacked on nowadays and often the story takes a back seat to yet another sex scene.
Some of the "older" romances have also sex and sensuality scenes, but they often feel more integrated and the stories feel more epic and romantic overall. At least that is how I feel. There are all levels of heat in romance and sex does not define the genre romance. The romance does. There is sex in other genres of course. But often the genre is being reduced to sex and nothing else. I don't really seek out so called closed door romances either, I like the natural and well written progression and payoff. But I want it to be with heart and feelings. Yearning and anticipation. Oh the payoff is so much sweeter and sexier. |

Still no Jill Shalvis' The Trouble with Mistletoe at the Harlequin site
![]() Something really odd though, all of the Harlequin Special Edition titles in digital are priced differently for November

MacLean focused the discussion on sex because that's specifically what people in the cases she cited think romance novels come down to. The phrases "sex books" and "smut novels" are used, and a not-so-veiled remark how romance novels are not real books. Even if you tell them that romance is about the relationship, the disdain is there, evident because, well…women and sex.
It's essentially sexist microaggression, hence the headline. I don't read any part of that article as MacLean saying women are reading romance for the sexy. Instead of defending against the misconceptions, she's turning it all around. "If all one has against the romance genre is the sex, then that's just another form of slut-shaming." As for the rest of it, I'm with cfrizz. I say, though, that I read romance for the romance. For me, it involves how an author explores that romance; and it includes intimacy, whether physical or emotional. I read for the feels. I read for the sexy. I read for many reasons. If my romance has characters who sex each other up all the way to their HEA, then I'm OK with that too. (Well, actually, maybe.) Last edited by ferrywoman; 10-01-2016 at 01:17 AM. i usually skip through sex scenes if i like a book, not because i'm against sex in books but because whatever i get out of romances doesn't seem to involve sex scenes - or at least not the sex scenes i find in the books i read.

I read sometimes the sex scenes, I skip them in other situations, I read erotic romances and totally clean romances. It's the same. I read what I like, period. News, articles, critics, other people can think as they like, I know what I want (neither family nor friends say nothing about it, they are trained well

This is only one of the options of the plugin, the first one I apply when I book goes into my library. For doing other thing, the code should be modified, this is not configurable. Quote:

I think there are a few weird things going on over on the Harlequin site. I sent them an email because I tried to get a book whose price was 5.59. As soon as I put it in my cart, the price jumped to 11.99.
Yesterday and today when I log into the my rewards part of the site, my points are at the top, but then there are no polls or other points activities listed - the page is just blank. They are also moving like molasses on point redemption. I submitted my receipt for points more than 10 days ago. When I had had no response of any kind after a week, I sent a second email, with a polite note that I was resending because I hadn't heard anything, and since it was my first time submitting, assumed that I had not done it correctly or sent it to the right address. I got a very snotty email back, telling me that it takes 3-7 days to see the points in my account. Now at 11 days and counting........ |
