KPV vs liberator, differences for PDF use?
hello all,
I am a Kindle DX user and I have been using both on and off but I really cannot see that many differences. I mostly confused at this point and I am wondering if one is more stable than the other and which one uses less power. It has been a while now that I have used both, I have abandoned a bit my Kindle because I had problems with screen freeze and problems with the Kindle coming back from sleep and I do not remember if this was with Liberator or KPV. So before I plunge back in I am wondering if one is more stable than the other for PDFs and which one uses less power? Because the status of my battery is really bad and it seems that these two use a lot more better rate than the stock PDF reader. Any insight would be helpful. Thank you |

Both are "dead stable" - in fact, continued development of both is "dead" - what you have is what there is unless someone picks up the development.
Unless you meant: "stable operation" rather than "stable development changes". I don't have a clue about that, I do not use either of them. Last edited by knc1; 09-21-2016 at 02:00 PM. |

Librerator has some extra features not present on KPV, but they are mostly the same. In my experience they are both the same as far as stability and battery use (have been a while since I used it). I would say go with librerator.

sorry I have not updated my profile, is it not clear that I have a DX? I am thinking about an Onyx M92/96 but the disappointing fact is that they are not more powerful than the DX, just a better interface and more independent development.

(All three applications have a common ancestor.) What are your requiremenst? Screen (size or type)? Processor "power"? A keyboard (or what considerations are you including in "better interface")? What are you considering as "more independent development"? Since you haven't yet committed (by spending your money) perhaps we could aid you in your decision making. But we need some clues to what your requirements and/or considerations are. |

The device info under your user name says none.

yes but did you read my post? "I am at Kindle DX user", it seems you are nitpicking.
In any case, to respond to knc1, thanks for your inquiry. I am in the market for an e-reader, I am not considering tablets, screen size of 8-9 inches and that has some better stock or third-party/custom software to read two columns scientific PDFs. I do not need a keyboard and I do not necessarily need to take notes but it would be nice to highlight and export to my computer. I am looking in the used market because I cannot afford €300 of device. It would be nice to have something a little faster than my DX. |

Wasn't picking nits. Here is the reason I commented to let you know. Yes from your original post it is obvious, but we don't reread your first post everytime and knc1 answers dozens of questions a day. That is why it is helpful to put which device or devices in your info so the helpers can see at a quick glance which device you are using. Yes, this is a small thread, but there are many long threads. When I go to any thread: I always click on first unread. Hope this helps. Oh and I am not sure what you want exists yet. |

mostly because I work all day on a computer screen and when I get home during the weekends I want to avoid further eye strain and so far it seems that e-ink is less straining for my eyes.

Good point
(written by a person whose eyes have been eaten away by using a computer screen since the days of the ADM-3 "glass tty"). Another thing if you haven't already thought of it - - At work make sure there is a 'distant view' and look up from the screen so the eyes can re-adjust briefly at something at least 20 feet away frequently. People working in a 6x8 solid wall cubical (cruel and unusual confinement if you where in prison rather than at work) are at special risk. |

@xx A good resolution makes screen reading more comfortable. eink 300dpi or tft full hd are both fine according to some research (I don't have a link unfortunately). And I didn't note a difference reading with my PW3 vs. Nexus10. Anyhow the most interesting books are still not available for ereaders.
