Edit: There were problems with syncing annotations earlier in the year. At the time, they synced to the other device, but not to the iOS and Android apps. I have just tested this as well, and it is working. Last edited by davidfor; 09-09-2016 at 09:56 AM. |

That was exactly a case for me 2 dys ago when I was trying to sync my Kobo Aura H2O and Aura One. It took several times to sync on both devices with some delay (wait some 10-15 minutes between tries) to get my highlights to One. I also checked on Android App, and it had the same problem. I would think that notes and highlights were not uploaded from the device of origin. Anyway, that worked after several tries.

I find that very hard to believe not only because they use the same exact display technology, but the Aura One also has a higher ppi rating (300 vs 265).

I have an H20, and I'm not disappointed. I will say the home screen on the One looks "weird" when compared to the H20. Could just be all that awkward white space now, and the tiles don't fill up well.
300ppi is impressive with this screen size. Hats off to Kobo on that. Last edited by SCION; 09-09-2016 at 11:46 AM. |

Hi Everyone,
Quick question - and please forgive me if this is obvious. I did look around the settings, page controls, etc. I can't seem to find a way to get the Aura ONE to go into landscape mode. Any idea how to do this? I have some technical books / pocket articles where the code examples are wrapping in a way that's difficult to read - so I would love to read said content in landscape mode. Thanks! |

My Aura One finally arrived today, just in time for some long reading sessions on the weekend.
A quick first Impressions report: Formfactor: It's just amazing. It's basically the same size as my H2o in it's gecko cover, just 2-3 mm wider and 1 cm higher. It weights the same, is thinner, and has a structure on its back that offers a good grip. All of with means for me it's actually easier to hold then my H2O. Screen & Light: A bit harder to describe. It is great with a slight hesitant but... Without the light the screen background is darker compared to the H2O. I had to increase the light setting in One to 28% to get about the same felt contrast as I have on a H2O at 23%. And yeah I can see a difference in font sharpness caused by the 300ppi, I think it's sharper on the ONE The light temperature is quite different on both devices: With the comfort light deactivated the One appears to have a much cleaner white almost a bit harsh then my H2O. The H2O has a light greenish color temperature in direct comparison. Turning on the comfort light (on auto) adjusts atm to about 15% which moves the color temperature from the harsh white to a more natural light tone. So it appears to work as advertised, and looks pretty gorgeous. No color blotches, and I'm extremely receptive to see those. The negative is that the top of the screen is slightly darker, and there are small shadow cones at the bottom of the screen. So the light intensity and temperature is imo better as the H2O and other readers I have had, but the evenness is a slight step back from my perfectly even H2O, more alike to the Aura HD. So all in all I would say 3 Steps forward one step back in regards of the light. Responsiveness and Performance : The Aura One turn pages a fraction slower then my H2O, you won't notice it imo while reading, but in a direct comparison the H2O flips the same book just a hair faster. Indexing books on the One appears to be a lot faster, I didn't meassure anything yet but it was working through my first batch of books damn quick. I think it's a pretty great improvement over other models, but imo the perfect erreader will have to wait for another generation or two, the capacitive tech and comfortlight feature are not yet at the perfect point kobo has reached with it's IR controlled screens. I believe this is an accurate statement. Kobo has demonstrated a willingness to give folks what they want, and surprise them with welcomed features. As you said, the capacitive screen and comfort light are in the early stages for them, so it's understandable it's not as refined as it could be and probably will be with the next iteration. Amazon, on the other hand, insists on pushing out high-priced products (still only offering 6" screens) and touting how premium the reading experience is, but when you get "your" device, that is often not the case. The screen gradient issues on the Voyage were never addressed in later production runs because it's a design flaw. Okay, cool, they'll fix it on the next model. Nope. The gradient issue is still present on the Oasis.

![]() ![]() ![]() I mean, it's a great device, but if you already have the H20, are happy with it (I know my H20 is absolutely great), and have no special use for an 8" display or Overdrive access (and even that is pretty crooked right now), then that's a lot of cash for one device more. After reading 2 hours more, I have to add 3 things. 1. Page turning is quite slow (reading an epub, and have to anticipate the page turning time in order not to interrupt my reading. On the positive side, due to the page size, I don't have to turn pages that much). But I am sure Kobo will improve that in a next FW update. It's just weird coming from the Tolino Vision 3HD, which is really quick, or even the H20. 2. The automatic lighting adaptation works very well, both the brightness and the natural tone. Think Voyage plus the natural tone change. I love, love, love that ! 3. (almost forgot that third point.. ![]() Last edited by aceflor; 09-09-2016 at 02:25 PM. |

I'm on my second One (I exchanged it on the advice of some people on this thread and the Kobo customer service) because of battery problems - even though I'm not convinced this is not a software problem - and I regret it. I'll see how it goes with the battery after I've calibrated it (I let it shut off by itself before recharging it), but I preferred the screen of my first one: it was whiter when the natural light was off, while the second one feels like the first One feels like the first with the natural light one step up.
I've always preferred the IR technology, because of reactivity and screen quality, but the One looked much better in the reviews than that disaster Aura 6" which I gave away very soon, and they said it was reactive. Since I wanted the bigger screen I bought the One despite it being capacitive, but I have difficulties: only a small part of my fingers register, and I find typing works best with the pulpiest part of my little finger. I have difficulty calling small notes, even though I have only kepubs on my Kobos because of this. And my IR Glo HD screen is definitely sharper and better looking. I have another big problem about reactivity: calling the book list is almost instant in both the Glo HD and the One, but calling collections takes 5" on the Glo, 16" on the One which is definitely painful. I NEED collections to navigate among my more than 2000 books on the device. I hope at least the battery and reactivity problems will be solved with future F/W, because the One has so much for it:
