Unless I'm mistaken, it looks like #1 and #4 are no longer free on Amazon

For those interested in indie books, Patty Jansen has her monthly list of more than 100 SFF book promotions for 3-4 September at http://pattyjansen.com/promo/ She seems to be alternating between free one month and $0.99 the next month. This is not her personal production: she authored only one of these books.

The list of books is already there, and some are already available now at $0.99, depending possibly on chosen reseller. The 3-4 September date is when they are all supposed to be available for $0.99

Note that some are not first in series, and the previous ones in the series may be also cheap, or free. It may be worth checking.

I will not make recommendations, for lack of precise or personal information. I looked at star ratings, but they have low value. But If anyone has advice, I am interested.

As per the initial post in all these sticky threads, please don't give details of deals from independent authors unless you've read the book in question and you're making a personal recommendation on that basis. You're very welcome to start a new thread for such a deal, though.

Thanks.

The second volume of Robert Heinlein’s Expanded Universe is available from various vendors at $2.99 instead of $7.99.

The two volumes form a chronological collection of stories and essays chosen by Heinlein himself. It highlights the development of Heinlein’s writing style and his philosophy on life throughout his career.

Just a couple of notes: This was previously published in e-book format by Baen Books, back in 2003, and at that time it was a single volume. The formatting of that version is really basic, so this version's formatting looks nicer. Given it's published by Arc Manor, it's not going to be winning any awards for the formatting, but they have put more effort into it than the previous Baen e-book did. For example, the forward for each story is a separate section, with a break before the story in Arc Manor's version. In the Baen version it runs straight into the story without even a divider to show the break.

Also, Arc Manor gave volume one of this away as their monthly freebie last October. So check, you may already have volume one, making this deal more appealing.

And I just have to include this quote from the forward to the whole thing, written in 1980. It's quite amusing in the context of an e-book:

Each copy is guaranteed—or double your money back—to be printed on genuine paper of enough pages to hold the covers apart.

Free Sept 1 - Sept 7 on Tor.com:

Gardens of the Moon by Steven Erickson (Book 1 of the Malazan Book of the Fallen)
Available for Download in either Epub or Mobi

This is a free giveaway in exchange for signing up for Tor.com's ebook club, which entails providing an email address, no more.

This book was, to my mind, the weakest in the series, which really kicks off with book 2, Deadhouse Gates, but if you like Epic Fantasy that wears its role-playing game roots on its sleeve, I can't recommend this series highly enough.

Stumbled upon a little self-published collection of short stories that is free today. I read a couple of the stories and the introduction. I enjoyed both of the stories, and the author and I seem to have a lot in common, so I imagine I'll enjoy the rest of the book.

Even Closer Than the Sea and Other Stories: Strange Tales of Mystery, Horror and Science Fiction
https://www.amazon.com/Even-Closer-T...dp/B01I8E8CEK/

I think it's free today only. Covers a few genres, hopefully a cross-posting is ok.
