By nothing happens, do you mean no message appears on the Kobo to ask whether you want to manage the device or keep reading, or do you mean after you select manage the device it does not show up in Windows?

If the latter dies anything show up in control panel / device manager under the USB section? Any unknown devices??

Dumb question, but did you reboot your computer yet?

That sounds like possibly a different problem. The with Win 10 Anniversary error (at least for me) the Kobo gave it's regular Connect message and the PC could see the external sd card just fine, but couldn't see the onboard storage.

as mentioned above, the PC is brandnew, so I had it NOT tested before the Win update

If no message appears this is the issue and no Windows 10...

Do try a different USB cable and/or port.

If you still do not get a message on the Kobo then I think that the USB port on the Kobo is faulty.

even with the bug in effect, the kobo would still appear in the drive management, and usually even be assigned a drive letter. it just was not possible to open, it would instead give a popup asking to format.

if nothing appears at all, something else is wrong.

Can confirm that my problem was fixed after receiving these 2 updates.

To be clear, my problem was that:

a) I was NOT getting the Connect message on my Kobo Aura HD after connecting it to my laptop (using the same port/cable as always)
b) Windows was not at all recognizing that anything had been connected (Kobo wasn't listed in the Windows File Explorer, no 'Eject USB' icon in my system tray, etc)

Now, I get the Connect message and, after connecting, I can browse into the Kobo in Windows Explorer and copy books over again, just like normal.

Thanks All!

Acrobat Reader is a fat, overbearing, and obnoxious PDF reading tool. Kudos to Adobe for developing, but "boos" for neglecting its code. Foxit Reader, on the other hand, installs in seconds and never asks for annoying weekly security updates. And does pretty much everything Acrobat Reader does in a fraction of the load time.

On the other hand, this topic is for Kobos, not W10 problems in general, so I hereby slap my own wrist.

Windows 10 computers crash when Amazon Kindles are plugged in

"Dozens of Microsoft Windows 10 users are reporting that their computers crash when plugging in Amazon Kindles." This article (https://www.theguardian.com/technolo...are-plugged-in) does not state which build, but it is dated today, August 25.

So thanks for the Kobo fix, and... what are you MS coders doing??!!

I have it on good authority* that Kobo has infiltrated Windows and sabotaged the update to make Kindles not work in order to drive sales of the new Aura One from disgruntled Kindle users

* - it should be noted that the good authority this statement is based on is my imagination let off the leash to go wild!

Hmm, "robko", rearranged that's "rkobo" or "Rakuten Kobo". Maybe it wasn't just a fantasy!

Darn, you figured me out ! And here I thought by playing the long game and signing up 2 years before Rakuten bought Kobo I'd be able to stay under the radar
