Kobo Aura ONE makes its debut with a singular goal—to offer a reading experience like no other. It will be available in soft black and will retail for $249.99 CAD (MSRP) in Canada exclusively at www.kobo.com and with Indigo in-store and online at www.indigo.ca from August 30 to September 29 (pre-order from August 30 to September 5; September 6 in-store availability); the device will be available at Best Buy beginning September 30; and as of September 6 in the US, the UK, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Belgium, Japan, and Turkey; October/November in Australia, New Zealand and Mexico; and March 2017 in Brazil.

I will make my purchasing debut with a singular goal - to spend money where my money has not gone before - Canada! My money will be electronic in form and will not be available in green.

No larger B&M retailers currently carry Kobo devices.

There is a list of indie book stores that participate in the Kobo resellers program here...
http://www.indiebound.org/ebooks

Some stock a few devices, but most only special order (from what I've read).

Two that did stock them and would ship in the past (don't know the current status) are Politics & Prose in Washington D.C. and Greenlight Bookstore in Brooklyn, NY

As Jon says what many folks have done for past devices is order from Chapters-Indigo in Canada as they've proven reliable and the exchange rate is currently favorable.

I just emailed Greenlight Books about if they are going to stock the Kobo Aura One. I'll post their reply when I get one.

Crossing my fingers they're going to get it on release day, would be much easier to pick up one there than to play the waiting game that is ordering from Kobo. I've not tried Chapters, so I can't comment about them. Kobo, when I ordered my H2O, was fairly quick, but neglected to send any tracking information, and it took a few calls to actually get someone who could provide accurate information.

edit- they got back to me. They do not stock them nor do they intend to get them in anymore. Their partnership is basically just to let you purchase ebooks from their website and they get a slice of the sale.

Sadly I've read this to be the case with more and more indie stores. It would be nice if Kobo could get a B&M store on board such as BestBuy (who used to carry them), Target, Radio Shack, WalMart, Staples, somebody.

Yes, but in the UK, France and Spain (those I know off) you can preorder! Why not in Germany or the Netherlands?

And to those in Australia, you're not alone. This with Kobo is rather a rarity. Usually, devices are not sold in the Benelux until everybody has one, and we'll have to go to the UK or Germany.

You can't pre-order the Aura ONE in the UK.

Ah, I thought I'd seen somewhere that you could pre-order, but that was probably a figment of my hyperactive imagination

That very nearly makes it an "order" though, if the device really does come out a week later!

I found a Rakuten website that says it will be out on Sept 6th in Japan with a price of 22,800 yen plus tax. That makes it more than 24,600 which is the equivalent of $316 CDN. I may have to look into the price of shipping from Chapters in Canada.

Ooh I just saw this as well which means that if I do get one I'll definitely order from Canada although it will probably automatically detect my IP. It's probably something that can be changed if you fool around with the settings on the computer anyways.

According to Google Translate, no Overdrive for Japan.

Aura ONE not available for pre-order in Italy. It will be available on Sept. 6 as in other countries.
For people wanting to buy it after its release, you will be able to do so in the usual places -- Feltrinelli and Mondadori websites and bookshops, all major consumer electronic stores like Mediaworld, Unieuro, Euronics, Comet etc. As of now, I've seen it listed ('not yet available') only on Unieuro's website.
