PreOrdered a Voyage, Thinking of getting a Kobo H2O too

As the title suggests, I've ordered the Kindle Voyage, but I won't have it in hand until late November. I've only begun reading e-pubs and mobi files on my android within the past few weeks and I'm hot to get a dedicated ereader.

So I'm thinking of the H2O as an adjunct to the Voyage. Splitting up the files and not worrying about converting with Calibre or any of that. Am I being too extravagant in getting both devices ? Or, OTOH, would it be beneficial to have the pair to use one for the mobi format, and the other for the epubs ?

Got my answer .......

Not that I needed permission ..... but I just found yesterdays thread " Multiple ebook readers", and that answered my question. I guess I'll go for the H2O and have it in hand. Two ereaders are apparently better than one.

I'm doing the same thing, you are not alone. I currently use a Kobo Aura and a PW2, the PW2 will go to hubby, we will then try and sell his PW1 and my Aura.

Well, I certainly think so, although 6 may be a bit excessive. I should probably thin out my collection.

I plan to keep my collection at three, that's what I have now, if I buy I sell from now on.

One Kobo and one Kindle. It's more than I need but all I want.

I've got the Aura HD and Aura H2O and I'm awaiting Voyage on November 4th.
Personally, I prefer Aura HD over Aura H2O.
I'm not too fond of the design of Aura HD, but I like Aura H2O even less.
Aura HD has a "fold" on the back which makes it convenient enough to hold, although it's rather bulky. That fold is gone on Aura H2O and I find it really inconvenient to hold. Bulky, not much grip and no "fold" to grasp.
I'd only buy Aura H2O, if the waterproof feature is important to you. Display-wise I don't see much of a difference.
In direct comparison, Aura H2O seems brighter than Paperwhite 2. Even Aura HD seems slightly brighter than Paperwhite 2. But that's a vague comparison, you simply can crank up the light a bit on any of those readers...

So:
Aura H2O over Aura HD only for the waterproof feature, else I'd still go with the Aura HD.
Aura H2O over Voyage: I have to wait for Voyage myself. But I guess, hardware-wise there won't be much of a difference, so it mainly will be about the bookstore. Additionally, design is of some relevance for me and I personally prefer Kindles over Auras in that regard: Less bulky, better grip, a bit more "elegance".

The big difference, at least for me, is the 6.8" versus the 6" screen.

Hm... When I put my H2O en my HD next to each other I can see a big difference in terms of contrast, with or without the frontlight. At least to my eyes there is a big improvement. In fact, I can read the H2O in my dimly lit living room without the frontlight, which I could not do with my HD!

The texture of the back is improved too, much more like the paperwhites. Textured. Not so smooth as the HD. The HD is much more prone to accidental slips, which happened to mine yesterday - now I've got an HD with a horizontal line not showing text... frustratingly-near-to-useless in other words.

If you got the cash to spend you should go for it, Jimmy - 6.8 to 6 is actually a pretty big difference in screen estate. I could never go back to a 6 inch reader. :-)

Whereas I prefer a smaller screen, although the screen of the Aura HD is just divine.

The PW is for when I travel to places where wifi may not be easily accessible - the Kobo Mini is for closer to home reading, and the Aura HD shines when it comes to manga or reading over sized books eith images. The H2O will replace the Aura HD in my rotation.

The Aura HD is rather hard to hold, IMO - the fold doesn't help due to the slippery back, which is why I use the Mini and the Kindle PW1 more than it. The H2O isn't as rubbery on the back as the Glo was, but is more like the regular Aura. It's a huge improvement, and enough on its own to warrant the upgrade. The waterproofing is a nice bonus, especially as I won't need to be QUITE as leery of wet conditions as I currently am with my current readers.

Also, the H2O has a much whiter screen than all of my other readers, the PW1 included. This is without the frontlight, under normal lighting (fluorescent). It's leaps and bounds beyond my Aura HD, which is another reason to upgrade for me.

Just put the order in for the H2O directly from the Kobo website. I would of gotten the Aura HD had it not been out of stock. Anyway ...... maybe a week and I'll have the lovely thing.

Yiu and I are swimming in the same ocean...

I have a Voyage coming next week and was holding off on the H2O.. but, after a lot of time on various MR forums the past few days, I persuaded myself into ordering an H2O this past Saturday.

I thought it might be a race to the finish to see which ereader arrived first, but it looks like Amazon will win easily as Kobo still hasn't sent an email with shipping confirmation.

The Voyage will replace one of my PW2s and the H2O will replace my Aura HD:-)

According to the "Order Problems" topic in this forum, Kobo doesn't send out shipping notification emails. To ship to the U.S. people were seeing a seven day turn around time. From reading those posts, you can contact customer service today or tomorrow and likely find that it has shipped and get a tracking number.

I ordered mine around 12:30 PM today! 😄

Congrats!

ok, good to know. thanks. I was looking for an email confirmation because I could have sworn I read that one would be sent when I was in the process of ordering / buying the H2O.

knowing that, I will look for my ereader next week.. I wont bother K customer service unless it doesnt arrive. I figure they have enough to do already.
