calibre not showing amazon books - Page 2

For some books I transfer via USB, I am able to upload to Calibre but other books I am unable. It transfers from the kindle as a Text file. Any suggestions?

Amazon has been monkeying around with eBook formats on the Kindle. So if you pull off an eBook from your Kindle, you cannot be sure you;ll actully get a usable eBook. So best not to do that.

If you select the book on MYK page then right click one of the options is download via USB. You select the kindle it's to be transferred to (theoretically), then Save, and the book appears on your PC in your downloads folder, or where ever you send downloads to. I allow the KFX to download to my Kindle then I also download a separate AZW version which goes into Calibre.

Hi, have Amazon removed the download via USB option? I wanted to copy a new purchase into Calibre (KFX format) but the only options Amazon are providing are to download direct to my Kindle or the Kindle App, not via USB.

Is there a way around this?

They certainly haven't removed it on Amazon UK. Go to "Manage My Content and Devices", click the "..." button alongside a book and there's an option "Download and Transfer Via USB". Are you not seeing this?

No problem - I don't think anyone mentioned that it's not something you do when you buy the book; you first buy the book and then select it for download from the "Manage Your Content" page. It's not obvious

Just to confirm, using this option will still download ebooks in the .azw or .azw3 format, right?

Right. The only real reason to use it if it you have a book in KFX format. Using this option will give it to you in KF8 (AZW3) format instead.

I actually use that for all of my books that I buy from Amazon. I never use Kindle for PC anymore--it's just easier to download it from Amazon as I buy it.

Incidentally, I just tried it again to make sure the option was still there, and I was able to send a book to my computer for USB transfer directly from the "buy" button. When I was choosing which device to send to on the product page, at the bottom of the list of my devices, was the option to "Transfer via computer".

Maybe that's a US-only option?

I also remember always seeing the option directly from the buy page. I can't imagine why they would choose to make it US-only though...
