calibre not showing amazon books

My Amazon paperwhite updated its firmware about a week ago. Since then when I use amazon.com to send books to my paperwhite, the amazon books won't show up in calibre. If I email a book to my paperwhite from calibre, it will go through and show up on the paperwhite, and then that book will show up when i connect my device via usb to calibre. However any books I send from amazon's cloud storage will not show up when i connect my paperwhite via usb to calibre. I used to be able to see the amazon books that are on my paperwhite device and manage them just like any other books. So hence i can mark them as read and send them to other people. Was there some new drm introduced in the update that made it so calibre can't see amazon books now?

I sometimes have the same issue and it all has to do with the Titles. If you have your books in calibre and then you connect your kindle and they do not match up it has to do with your book titles, or at least that is the issue I have found.

The same thing is happening to me... actually SOME books do appear but most of them DO NOT show up on Calibre but do show on the Kindle screen.

@cookerrr, your profile lists a "paperwhite", which could be any one of three. Please update it to be more specific

see which one you have here: Kindle Serial Numbers

Knowing which model you have (as opposed to merely its advertising name) is crucial for us to supply help.

Also as GoSharks says, please tell us your firmware version.

I am going to go one step further and hazard a guess... you have a PW2 or PW3, the firmware is the latest firmware which supports the Enhanced Typesetting update, and if you look in your File Browser the books are in *.kfx files.

KFX is a new format which calibre does not understand yet, in order to download the AZW3 version go to http://amzn.com/manageyourkindle or download through Kindle for PC

KFX is the new Amazon enhanced ebook format.

my kindle is Kindle PaperWhite 2 (2013) WiFi (US, Intl)
and my fw version is 5.6.5

After reading through these posts i can confirm that its the kfx format that is the problem. I can't find how to change what format amazon sends me when I have it send me a book. Is it possible to do this, or for books that amazon sends me am I stuck with kfx format? I've tried poking around in the manage my kindle options on amazon but can't seem to find it. Thanks a ton for the help!

You can use the MYK page and tell it to send you the file via the "Transfer via USB" option. That will get you the book in the old Mobi/KF8 format.

There is no preference. If you download it from the Cloud tab on your Kindle, you will get KFX when a KFX version exists. If you download from your web browser or using Kindle for PC, you will get AZW3.

So just to close this thread as solved. I ended up just using the amazon download and transfer via usb function. I setup calibre to watch the download folder and auto add those to the calibre library. This way the books can be all in calibre with the ones i download elsewhere. It's nice so books can be centrally managed in one piece of software. Thanks for all the help forum people! :-)

I have a similar problem but can't find where to change my kindle settings to deliver by USB. I have my Kindle Paperwight connected & don't seem to be able to do anything! Can anyone help please?

You download via USB from Amazon's Manage Your Content and Devices page, it's not done via your kindle.

If you select the book on MYK page then right click one of the options is download via USB. You select the kindle it's to be transferred to (theoretically), then Save, and the book appears on your PC in your downloads folder, or where ever you send downloads to. You then load that copy into Calibre.

I allow the KFX to download to my Kindle then I also download a separate AZW version which goes into Calibre.
