This was one of my problems with the first aura 6", though the main one was the quality of the screen which was awful. I assume they learned and it is better. If the quality of the screen is the same as that of the Glo HD I'll buy the 7.8" even though I prefer recessed bezels.

One thing I like with the flush screen: no dust accumulating in the corners - easier to clean.

One thing I like with the IR technology: I can read with gloves (outside in winter waiting for buses or trains) - but I use 6" models on the go, to read comfortably one handed while standing up (and grabbing a pole with the other hand).

That suggests to me that if either releases first it will actually be the 6'' reader followed by the immediate discontinuation of the Glo HD.
No, you didn't actually say they were releasing them at the same time, but it would be hard to read you statement any other way. But, my main point was that we really don't know what is being released and when. Everybody is assuming based on the FCC documents and the Kobo CEO's tweet that we will see at least one new devices soon. Personally, I think that is correct, but I really have no idea if it will be both devices. But, with that leaked page, I would be very surprised if the 7.8" device wasn't released soon.

As to the new 6" device being a replacement for the Glo HD, I don't think so.

For both devices we have the FCC document. These don't really give much away. They really just give some names, the sizes and the fact both have WiFi. The next thing that turned up was the photo posted by the Kobo CEO. Everyone assumed this was the 7.8" device, but there was no real evidence one way or the other. The leaked page for the 7.8" had a lot of details. Based on what was on the page, I find it hard to think that it wasn't accurate. I don't think we can discount it. And the photos suggest the photo from the Kobo CEO was also of this. That adds up to a lot more info about the 7.8" device than the 6" device.

The name "Kobo Aura Edition 2" comes from https://apps.fcc.gov/eas/GetApplicat...tml?id=3038173. It looks like one of the other documents has been used for both. It doesn't have a model number on it. At least one of the other documents had that name as well.

Excellent timing. I was saying to my wife this morning that I'll give her my Aura since her mini battery is failing off. I like the flat surface, even if I change page more than I should. It will be the weight that will decide which one I'll get.

Thank you for that, it's useful to me. Seems like the Aura One is a bit taller than I would have preferred. Apparently there's a little more top bezel than the H2O.

Have you seen a Kindle Voyage though? It is beautiful

I want some leaks on that one. I don't suppose they will announce it at the same time as the cookie-sheet sized one? (Remember the promo photos of the Kindle DX---always shown being held in 2 hands? The @ 8" Kobo is even bigger, so....)(The promo photo showing the woman holding the big Kobo with one hand...her thumb is obviously smack in the center of the screen, no way could she actually be reading).
AFAIR, the Kobo 7.8" screen ereader is quite a bit smaller than a Kindle DX 9.7" screen ereader. The DX clocked in at 264x183x10mm compared to the Aura One at 195x138.5x6.9mm so the Aura One is about 2.7" shorter, 1.77" narrower and a mere 0.12" less depth.

As for the way the model is holding the ereader, since we only see the back of the device in the photo, she could easily be holding it the way I often do with my thumb pretty much vertical on the bezel ready to lash out to turn the page. OTOH, the XYL says forget the ereader, she wants the dog.

I never used the word "good". I said a flush screen was bad because it's the feature that will keep ME from getting this device.

I agree that 6" ereaders are ok for reading normal ebooks, but personally when i used to have a kobo glo i felt like reading with an electronic device. Now using an H2o 6.8" I feel like reading a real book. So waiting the kobo aura one 7.8" and see if the reading improves more.

Sorry, but just no. The DXG needs a complete hardware overhaul. The DXG is just a larger screen version of the K2.

Not entirely; that was the DX. The DXG had the very first Pearl screen. Internally it was still a K2, though.

It would still need a total refit.

SD card slots are just invitations for trouble, anyway.

And here comes the important part, Jon: In my opinion!*
