Tools Software Jailbreak for PW2, PW3, PW3W, KT2, KV, KOA and KT3

I'm currently stuck at step 6, implementing the "hotfix". I successfully ran Branch Delay's factory root and downloaded JailBreak-1.14.N-FW-5.x-hotfix.bin onto my Kindle KT2 (running factory 5.6.0). However, when I eject the Kindle it complains that "An invalid update file has been uploaded on your device".

I've only ever had this error when I've tried to use a bin file from the wrong firmware. Searching through the posts it looks like the hotfix came about due to silent OTA updates to 5.6.5 (I was a victim back then too). Does this mean the hotfix can only be applied to 5.6.5 firmware? If so, it isn't that obvious on the first post.

If i were to apply this on my Kindle Touch 7th Gen. (Presumably the KT2) with special offers. Would it work. Or should i cancel the special offers first?

Please ignore me. I'm having corrupt download issues over and over. I've downloaded NiLuJe's hotfix again and it works fine.

Seems to have reached India via Mexico and Brazil.. after manufacture in China!
Did a quick unboxing (@work)
Confirmed it's G090G1... with 5.7.4..
So.. all set..
Will play around a bit with the "jailed" version before taking the plunge..

Blue, Alice had been there before (file was cached where seen).

The darker the shade of blue, the more often Alice was seen at that location.

Ah.. After step 5 (Download and install the current version of Branch Delay's factory firmware jail break), the file "main-htmlviewer.tar.gz" is still there, not gone.

Would this be an issue?

I'm assuming it wont and I'm deleting the file and proceeding to step 6(Download and install the current 'hotfix').

LATER: Step 6 completed. Added empty file with name 'update.bin.tmp.partial'.
Kindle's USB directory now shows:
folders: documents, mkk, system, rp, voice
files: version.ser, file.ser, update.bin.tmp.partial

The two files version.ser and file.ser did not exist originally. They seem to have been left behind by step 4. I'm assuming they're harmless.

So.. Am I done? The PW3 "looks" normal..

My understanding is that you want a DIRECTORY named "update.bin.tmp.partial" as opposed to a file and then create a file in that directory. The update process will be able to delete a file with that name, but a non-empty directory was not planned for.

You're right, dhdurgee! Need to create a directory, not a file!
The file has silently grown to 200 MB after connecting to WiFi...

If I understand the process correctly, I am supposed to download my downgrade firmware from http://pastebin.com/Wdw4L7yT. On that page I see not 1 but 19 different (or duplicated?) firmwares to choose from. See attached.

• kernel-5.0.0: one link
• kernel-5.0.0: a different link
• mmcblk0p1-5.0.0: yet another link

I have no clue what mmcblk0p1 is all about. This same set of firmware is duplicated for ver 5.1.0, and is duplicated and expanded for version 5.1.2. A whole separate collection of firmware is listed as 'diag with SSH'.

Considering I am trying to downgrade, I choose the first download, kernel-5.0.0, which leaves me with a .dmg file, not a .bin. I am unable to mount the .dmg nor can I extract it.

TL/DR: I seem to have access to K5 5.0.0 firmware is .DMG format, and evidently need .BIN format.

From your serial number, this is not the jailbreak for you. You have the KT1.

Unless I am missing something, B011 is a K5: https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/Kindle_Serial_Numbers. Also, KT1 doesn't appear at all on that page. Typo on your end perhaps?

The original Kindle Touch was called many things in this forum before we settled on K5 as a standard nickname for support and firmware naming conventions. That became confused when the KT2 came out.

Our nicknames all made a lot of sense at the time, but if we followed Amazon marketting naming conventions, we would soon be at "All New Kindle. 47th edition". Instead we attempt to use names that actually match the hardware and firmware major versions to some degree.

It is amazon who dropped the ball on firmware versions when they made the kindle fire use firmware 6.x.x, so all new eink kindles may forever be 5.x.x.x.x.x.x, requiring us to use even more hardware-specific names for newer models.

For example, because a reasonably common abbreviationg for "oasis" is "OA", we nicnamed Kindle Oasis "KOA" (campground edition LOL).

As it turns out, knc1 is the leading authority on kindle nickname conventions in our forum. Perhaps he will share the history lesson he posted elsewhere.

You are right on the there is no KT1 listed, it is the K5. But you have the first Kindle Touch. Why I said you have a K T 1. As in Kindle Touch 1.
However the K5 is not the KT2 and this is not the jailbreak you need.
You need the K5 jailbreak which I linked.

Same reason you will not find a KV-1 or a KOA-1 - -

The model nickname is picked when the model is introduced, a year or more before we learn if there will be a "-2".

A very common convention, even in consumer items.

Any car model that is a -II
See if you can find a -I
