I'm not very familiar with the present day artists, except for the really big ones--Beyonce, Carrie Underwood, et al. That's probably why I didn't recognize any of the names. The heyday of my music listening was in the 70's and 80's. Pretty much skipped the 90's, for some reason. I did a little more listening the first decade of the 2000's. I've pretty much skipped the years since about 2010.

I might give a listen to Kitaro and Luna, because of the interest that you expressed in them, to see if I might like them.

Kitaro's "greatest hit" is probably (The Theme from) Silk Road. He has recorded it multiple times. There are several versions, plus some live performances, on Youtube.

His music style is usually pigeon-holed as "New Age," but nothing else about him is "New Age."

If you have a Roku then you already have Fandango Now as the default movie service on the device. It took the place of M-GO.

That movie is special to me. It was shown at the Fort Knox KY base where I took basic training for the Army. I watched it during my first week stationed there before basic training formally began for me. It was surreal to watch the movie and literally step outside and see the location where it was filmed all around me.

This week's free download is the Allegro from Pauline Viardot's Sonatine, written in 1874. It comes from a recent recording of 100 years of music by French female composers by Diana Ambache and friends.

Viardot, sometimes Viardot-García, was a mezzo-soprano and composer who lived and worked in Paris in the late 19th century. Franz Liszt admired Viardot greatly, and said that 'with Pauline Viardot, the world has finally found a woman composer of genius'.

The recording was reviewed in the April issue of BBC Music Magazine, and was the subject of our April First Listen podcast. Ambache has created a diverse sequence of thoroughly engaging chamber works' writes Christopher Dingle.
