Incidentally, when Amazon pushes the update via Wi-Fi, will it be available via 3G too? Or will the update be disabled while using 3G since the file size would be too big for Amazon to justify paying the cost for connectivity.

Due to data rates and speeds, I think it will be limited to wifi.

But then every time you add a new book onto your kindle the scale would have to be adjusted to determine the longest book and all other dots recalculated. Seems like a waste to me just to give an indication of which book is really the longest.

Quite. The difference between an 800-page and 8000-page book is a bit academic, anyway: both of them will last all day

And that sleep state is precisely why the battery lasts as long as it does.

But by all means, take away the main reason people buy E-Ink devices over tablets.

No, the dots we're discussing here is the row of dots underneath a book which give a visual indication of its length and reading progress through it.
