True and better, don't know why I didn't come up with that...

If your first folder "ebooks" is important for you, it's better to use :.num to limit chars by yourself than to let automatic trimming. That's because trimming will apply to the whole path and can change your "ebooks" folder to a shorter word.
The device uses FAT32 for the user partition. That means that any OS using it has a maximum length of 255 for the full path of a file. The 185 characters is a hard limit imposed by the driver for books because the device generates other files with prefixes and suffixes that add close to 40 characters to the path. No matter what you do to the template, the driver will prevent the path from being longer 185 characters.

If you want to use these, set the language of the book correctly in the metadata. There will be a way to produce this in the template. It might be "{language}" or "{lang}", but I haven't needed to look so I am not sure exactly what it is.

Interesting

I thought he/she meant to use the codes in the collection name. What would be the purpose of your suggestion?

You can write language codes to shorten your collection names. But you can also use {languages} metadata in some template. (I didn't try if languages metadata gives you the full language name or iso-639-1 code)

To prevent you from having to duplicate metadata. The save template uses a the template language. But, the collections columns can be any column. This includes custom columns made from other columns. These are columns whose values are generated by from a template. So, the custom column could generate a list of collection names by combining the books language with each tag for the book*. Or just about any other massaging of the metadata in the book.

* To paraphrase my old maths text books: Writing this is left as an exercise for the reader.

Been trying do the exercise, but failed...

Where do I find this template and practically where and how do I combine? I have so far made two custom columns, one named Annotations and the secon myshelves.

EDIT: when creating the myshelves column that combine language column field and my own tag, should I instead choose "Column built from other columns, behaves like tags" in the Column Type list?

That is probably the type you want. That allows the template to return a list of values that can be used collection names.

For the actual template values, there is extensive help. And there should be a way to open the template editor when creating the column. Otherwise, look in the sticky thread about shelves at the top of this section. That has a lot of discussion about various templates. Or go into the calibre forum and look in the library management subforum.
