It's an opinion that seems to be shared by everyone who's done a side-by-side comparison of the two devices. The Voyage really does (to my eyes, at least) have better contrast.

I wonder if that's true. I don't know if this applies to all plastics but I read an article about plexiglass (a type of plastic used for airplane windowshields among other things) a few years ago that explained that it was something like 90% more transparent than glass. or maybe that was 90 times more transparent. I don't actually remember now.

So unless you have information to the contrary I wouldn't just assume that the glass is more transparent.

I think that was 90% as transparent as glass. I know that the plexiglass I have here at the house is not quite as transparent as glass or tempered glass which is what most car windshields are made of.
Now I know nothing about airplane windshields but I know car windshields have a layer of something to keep them from breaking with sharp edges, they shatter instead.

The layer containing the led lights is certainly different for each of these devices, since they have a different number of LED's.

True - this really bothered me when I bought the first gen Kindle. I didn't think I would ever enjoy it as much as reading a "real" book. There was just all of the feelings associated with the real thing and sitting down with it that I didn't ever think an electronic book could replace. It's kind of funny now. I knew I would eventually forget about the device and become accustomed to it, but now I feel odd when I'm reading a "real" book. Of course there are some things that I like better in a real book format, but that is mostly due to shortcomings in the e-reader software or the book formatting and not as much because of the book itself.

Then I go to my brother's house and see his cool library and get a hit of book lust and feel like perhaps I should have never switched to e-readers!

I haven't seen a Oasis (in the flesh) so I can only go by what others say. The comment was made that there was no difference in the screen -- I was just mentioning that there was (whether that difference makes the Oasis' screen work better than the Voyage's I have no way of knowing).
