Small tablet (9.7") + small phone (4-4.7")? Big tablet (12.9") + big phone (5.5")?

Agree with that. 7 to 8 is what I consider small. I would be glad to have a good 8" tablet with 4:3 aspect like a Samsung S2. I have a 5.5" One Plus One phone and would not mind going to a 6" phone!

Do you mean a 8" 4:3 tablet or/and the 6" phone, too? Either/or?

I have an iPad2 that I used to use a lot and it was purchased when I had a smaller phone with a 4 inch screen. But when I purchased my 6+ it went to the back burner. More so that it has slowed to a crawl with its updates. It hasn't been the same since IOS 7.

I now prefer my MBP 13 even though its an older model (late 2010) with an SSD vs a HD it more than suits my needs. I liked the iPad but probably won't replace it as its just to limiting.

I have a 9.7" Sony tablet, though I prefer to have something bigger.

My phone is Nexus 6 and I am happy to have such a large screen. Most of my browsing on bed is with the Nexus.

My laptop is also a 17" one. I don't like small screens where I need to remove my glasses to read. Probably it is due to the age...

You can restore some of the performance on your iPad 2 by backing up the data on a pc using iTunes and then a total reset of the device. During the reset process you will be offered a chance to restore your data. (This process will take hours.) You could get back gigs of memory and will also get better performance. The ROM is very likely fragmented which will cause performance problems.

Thanks Dale. I've tried that and most of the tricks from Apple. But it's never been the same. Though I might try it again and do a more selective restore on the apps.


I really liked my iPad and even after all this time the battery still lasts quite a while and it still does a lot of things quite well. It's just gotten slow and many of the visual features that made it so impressive when new have been turned off for some speed upgrades.

Like Windows not supporting XP or 7 in so much time at some time you just need to upgrade. I just wish they would have stopped allowing the upgrade or allowed you to go backwards. I knew it wouldn't last forever and maybe it's time to let it go.

Or make a wall mount and use it as a clock.

On the picture below is all I use these days for reading. I did buy Samsung Galaxy Tab S2, the 8' 4:3 for reading and Galaxy Note 4, 5.7'. Phone is always with me and tablet stays at home, unless I'm travelling. I'm very pleased with both. Both have transparent bumper case which allows very good grip, even at night to read in bed. I don't use covers these days. I also have H2O which is an excellent reader but currently covered in dust. On both phone and tablet I have paid library subscription which functions like Netflix - and I read books from there, unfortunately it doesn't work on Kobo.

By the way I still have the original iPad from 2010 but aside very simple websites I cannot use it for anything else than internet radio. I gave up on buying iPads as soon as I realized I spent 700€ on something that would function for only 2 years.

This was the only iPad that did not get continuously supported. It was the first and they didn't give it enough memory. But this mistake was corrected. So, the rule is. Don't buy the first generation of anything and you won't be as disappointed thus cutting yourself off from the improvements of future products.

I know it now but in 2010 it was such a super duper new shiny thing. And I was in the market for an ereader/tablet combo. It was marvelous when it worked. How could I know it would not have enough memory. Anyway my colleague at work also complains at his iPad 2 that it is getting very slow. I might give him your advice to restore things, maybe it will help. By the way, Apple hardware works great, it is the software that gets sidelined.

As for the topic 8' and 5.7' is the right combination for me.
