" My long-winded question is, what are the reasons for not wanting to install 5.7.3 and beyond? "
Some may want to retain the ability to jail break the device. As mentioned in another thread recently, the comment was: "I don't install a firmware version until it is possible to jail break it." I.E: If something ever goes wrong with our viral, self re-installing jailbreak - the owner can just manually repeat the process. Keep in mind my own view point - I am among the "If it isn't broke, don't fix it" crowd. So my answer may well be more than a bit biased. Last edited by knc1; 04-04-2016 at 10:38 PM. |

I see that there is a new 5.7.4 firmware. Is jailbreak preserved after flashing this? Can anyone confirm please?
Edit: Whoops, I think this is in the wrong thread. If so, can someone move to the main 5.6.5 jailbreak thread for me please? Moderator Notice

Why don't you start a new thread since it has to do with a new firmware. |

Long story short:
- I installed 5.6.5 Jailbreak + bridge, PW3 G090G105 UK English, used simpler jb method from this post - Installed KUAL, Vlasovsoft, RescuePack and Coward's Rescue Pack Addon from NiLuJe's hacks page. All good for couple of days. - Wanting to sell the Kindle, so I UNREGISTERED it.... - Got "you device is no longer a test Kindle..." message - Tried to re-apply Jailbreak. All steps went fine, but "Jailbreak failed" message in the end - I did factory reset to get clean 5.6.5 FW - Tried to re-apply Jailbreak, again. 3 times. All steps went fine, but "Jailbreak failed" message in the end What now? Can it be Rescue pack interfering with JB install? UPDATE: All fixed. Tried JB many times to no avail. Re-downloaded update_kindle_all_new_paperwhite_5.6.5.bin firmware file from Amazon's website and installed. All up and running :-) Last edited by greentea; 04-21-2016 at 05:55 AM. |

@Perkinz: Restrictions are: don't deregister it and follow that with factory reset or firmware update. Peope here seem to really like to factory reset their Kindle. See post above yours (@greentea).

Do not touch the "Reset (to factory defaults)" choice. Think about what that label is telling you. Where any of the things you got from this site included among the factory defaults? Could not that button's actions be described as: "Erase / Remove (anything that did not come from the factory)" ? (If the button was large enough of course.) |

Hola Gurus!,
![]() I updated to 5.7.2.1 fw some weeks ago, before my lasted 2 o 3 months easily (I only read at nights for 30 to 45 min), after upgrade It only last 1 week at most! I tried to erase all the books, thinking about a indexing problem, only left 2 book in kindle, but there is no difference, I charged last night (12 hours ago), and I took a picture a few minutes ago, I didnt used last night, ![]() ![]() By the way, I always set AIRPLANE mode ON. Dont know what to do, is it a FW problem? should I downgrade? Thanks in advance! |
