I must be the only one who understands that last sentence to mean that the buttons won't swap when you rotate the Kindle. Someone will have to let us know once their have theirs

In context, the setting referred to in the manual allows you change which button turns the page forward and which turns it backward. Once you make that decision, it will apply even when you flip the Oasis. In other words the top button will continue to page forward (or backward) and the bottom button will do the opposite, no matter how you hold it.

At least that's how I understand it.

See I understand it the other way round as in once you've assigned forward to say button A and back to button B, the function stays assigned to those buttons no matter which way you hold it, so A will always go forward and B will always go back

Edit: I quoted that paragraph from the user guide several pages back saying that it would be confusing... It's all a bit unclear

The "dealing with B&N" problem was solved with Calibre. I almost never buy books from Barnes & Noble now (ever since they quit allowing you to download your books for backup). ... you'll see that you're changing which button goes forward and which goes reverse. Once you change your preference, according to the manual, that preference change will "stick" -- the top button will remain forward -- or back -- no matter which way you rotate your Oasis.

I was wondering if there would be a (color) 13.3 inch reader from Amazon but I couldn't care less for a thinner reader without any improved specifications.

I don't know if this could be true but I can tell what's my experience: when you work as a waitress, you have to grip your fingers on the plate's bottom, where the material make a little "edge". Yeah, the Oasis isn't a scalding weighing dish, but when you keep using only one hand you tire tendons and muscles. That's what also happens when you tap on your smartphone for hours on end.. Weight is not balanced

Given that the Oasis first shipment is already sold out, actually it was sold out as of 2 hours after the announcement except with the black cover, I would say this new Kindle has exceeded Amazon's expectations.

Extra confusion

The bit of the user guide quoted by rcentros has: 'To page forward in a book, press the top button. To go back in a book, press the bottom button'

The full user guide linked in the first post has: 'To page forward in a book, press the botton button. To go back in a book, press the top button'

The rest of the paragraph is the same. That's in chapter 1 Getting Started and the picture has the buttons on the right-hand side.

Len Edgerly in his weekly podcast, which this week is all about this new e-reader, asked the design team about color and was told it wasn't ready. Listening to their comments, it wasn't clear to me that any e-reader they're going to produce will ever feature color, which isn't to say that they might not offer a liquavista tablet sometime in the future.

The confusion is that people aren't certain if the setting means "the top button" or if the setting means "THIS one actual physical button that the picture is indicating."
It would be clearer if the picture on the setting screen showed both orientations and indicated which button did what in both.
I tend to agree with your interpretation, but I have seen some dumb UI implementations in my time.
