I've watched the videos that have been posted here by some helpful members, and I can confirm that the buttons switch function too. i.e, if you've set the bottom button to page next, then the bottom button in either orientation pages next. Functionality remains consistent.

The user guide says that the buttons invert as well, so the 'top button' is always the button which happens to be at the top in this orientation.

They don't - it's in the user guide (I had a look through earlier)

I thought somewhere it the manual it said the buttons flip as well, but could be wrong. No time to look right now.

Oh well thank you for that. I do really like the design then. I use one hand to hold my Kindle and would like to be able to do so more comfortably. I just can't justify spending so much. I'm back on Scribd, too, and of course I wouldn't be able to read those books on it. (I tried Kindle Unlimited but I wasn't happy with the selection.)

My first reader was a Nook Simple Touch (hence my username) and it was the most comfortable reader I've had. Too bad about having to deal with Barnes and Noble if you have one though.

Page Turn buttons: To page forward in a book, press the bottom button. To go back in a book, press the top button. To configure the buttons to match how you hold your Kindle, tap the Quick Actions icon on the toolbar, then select All Settings. On the Settings page, select Reading Options, then Page Turn Buttons. Note that your settings will apply even if you rotate your Kindle.

Yep; I never peel and eat a banana with the curve facing toward the side. The curve needs to face either toward or away from me to maintain symmetry.
