This. The design may or may not be visually appealing, but it is clearly more ergonomic than the typical flat ereader, which often becomes tippy when held one-handed.

ETA: Looks like I can order both the Kobo H2O and the best-rated Android ereader for the same price as the Oasis. So, I'll do that and return the one I don't like. Or maybe do that and then keep one as a backup in my emergency kit.

They used a render, not an image for this pic. No sign of a power button and no charging port. I can see the power button in other views, but not the charging port.

So mostly about the smaller size/lighter weight. My Kindles have chunky Oberon covers, weight is not something I am particularly concerned about

I'm confused. In your original post you stated a desire for an SD card slot then you asked when Kobo were likely to announce a new release. So you're interested in a new model and all that's been pointed out is that as Kobo removed the SD card slot from the latest model in their line-up (Glo HD), there's a chance they may continue that way with future releases too, though of course they may not, but both Nook and Kobo have done so with their latest models, so it's definitely a possibility. Yes you can get an H2O instead, but that's not a new release.

And back on topic, I like the idea of a really small & light ereader as I always read mine without a case, and I'm assuming the design of it will make it more comfortable to hold, but there's no way in a million years I'd pay anywhere near the asking price. I'll continue to stick with my PW2 for now, and watch and see if Kobo come up with something small & light that might tempt me (or more likely watch in vain for a deal on the Voyage, which I'd then not be happy with because it won't look as nice as the Oasis ).

That e-reader looks fugly. It reminds me of those Chinese knock-offs or really cheap kiddy tablets.

The design of the Kindle Paperwhite is much, much better, even with its thicker bezel at the bottom (which disappears when you sit on your back and hold the device on your stomach). The " Oasis' " asymmetric design would probably piss me off. I like things symmetrical.

Oh yeah I forgot about that. That would also bother me, I switch hands during reading quite frequently and having to flip it upside down would be weird. Not to mention the fact that the case would be reversed when you flip it and open the other way. I just don't get it.

Ergonomic. That will lure in many people.
Cover. Means people won't have to spend more money to get a cover. (Yes, I know but the average consumer will think the cover is free.)
Charging cover: even better. Now no worries about carrying cords around. (Yes, I know you still need a cord to charge the cover, but then we are talking average consumer.)
Oh and more lights.

Average consumers are being taught that bundles are better.

So Ergonomic, charging cover, extended battery life, more LEDs will sell it.
Typical consumer won't read the details.

Charging cover is a way to keep the advertised weight down (listed weight is Sans cover) but claim long battery life.

But the other advantage, is the cover can be left charging (and forgotten ) while the reader travels away from the charger

I have a wide (1" wider than the device) cover on my K4NT to enable 1 handed page turns. The wide side seems to address this need. ??Does the UI allow it to be Left Handed??
$290 is not a killer, I paid 200 for my first (5")e-ink reader. Amazon killed off the profitability for most other device suppliers (at least locally).
