how to test if the unit is jailbroken, and why is the Update_usbnet_0.21.N_install_pw2_kt2_kv_pw3.bin always gets deleted when I unplug the usb cable (trying to install subnet), thanks

Because your firmware version is 5.6.x or 5.7.x?
Because your not using KUAL with the MrPI extension to install the package?

Hi, I am a new member and have had a PW2 for almost two years now. My PW2 is not jailbroken. Just applied the 5.7.3 update a few days and have been having some issues with battery drain that I have written about at https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=272839. Anyway, I am wondering if this jailbreak will work on my PW2 with the 5.7.3 firmware update.

I have read the last few pages since and it is unclear whether this jail break as referenced in the first post on this thread will work on PW2 with 5.7.3.

And if it does work, then is what I need (files, instructions) in the first post on this thread?

No it will not work.

There is no jailbreak for firmware more recent than 5.6.5
There is no way (yet) to downgrade the firmware to 5.6.5

The one exception to the above -
If you have serial port access to the device ....
There is a sticky thread here on that subject.

I'll check out the sticky thread you referenced. Also I have a Mac running OS10.9 and don't run windows on my Mac. Might be above my paygrade. :-(

There are Mac (and ex-Mac) owners here to help translate.

The only tricky part is making the physical connection to the pads of the serial port.

Other than those two points, the directions are very good.

Thanks again knc1 for your help, I really appreciate it. Figured there are Mac and ex-Mac owners here, not as worried about that. As I said elsewhere, I think that the making the physical connections might be above my pay grade. But I'll read the sticky and then see how I feel.
