Maybe this new Kindle will have bluetooth audio so you can buy an Echo to be able to listen to TTS.

I voted only for that which I thought is likely to happen, not for what I want. 'what features will the high-end Kindle HAVE' is the title of the poll.
The only listed features that I would want (and did not vote for) are Liquavista (color) and restoration of audio capabilities for TTS if not other audio applications (speakers not needed provided there's a output jack and ideally, Bluetooth). The latter isn't worth doing unless TTS is improved (more languages/voices, noting that this needs to sell outside English markets, and even there maybe folks would prefer a non-US inflection of English so they can hear proper pronunciation for a change ![]() Kindles of yore also had a primitive MP3 player and Audible player. Unless these are greatly improved, no need for that software. 'Bluetooth' connectivity was not listed explicitly, though that is one of the rumored features. Sure, you can pair with Echo, but there are cheaper speaker and headphone options. And it would be nice to be able to use an external keyboard for typing notes and basic navigation without having to touch the screen (the Fire, by the way, has decent keyboard navigation: you can navigate to home screens and select an item to open, turn pages, etc. With a mouse/trackpad, you can also do most of the other stuff). Echo/Tap/Dot TTS have what I would call 'adequate' TTS but it is no substitute for on-device TTS. Navigation, for example is very basic and can be very frustrating if you want to jump to a different location with voice command (perhaps the Alexa app can be used to navigate to specific chapters, but cannot check that right now). No speed adjustment, and only one voice thus far (US English female). Last edited by tomsem; 04-07-2016 at 01:51 AM. |

About SDCards I had them with the Sony eReader & found they drain batteries rather quickly Always indexing the files. So while I like to have More space I rather they Not be SDcard. Surely they could put bigger HD in these things.

Other than increased screen resolution I'm not particularly bothered about what it'll have as I'm fairly happy with my PW2 for now. So just voting for what I think it'll have, solar, text to speech/speakers, buttons, waterproof, and possibly a bigger screen.
I do wonder if Amazon will throw in a surprise, non-shatter screen perhaps? |

You can bet that it won't have any actual improvements to the reading experience such as justification control, or control over paragraph spacing/indents, etc.

I voted for water-proofing (because it's an easy option) and solar-power case (because of reports, which I'm rather skeptical of), and real page-turn buttons, again because of reports.
I don't expect Amazon to to innovate in any meaningful way (i.e. a larger screen). They've not bothered since the DX, and I can't see why they would suddenly change tack. Saying that, reports hint at Blue-tooth, which is an interesting tease, but it's quite possibly untrue. If it is true, then maybe we will see a significant change in the Kindle range. Mind you, apparently BT comes integrated in the new chips, so maybe its just an easy-to-add option with no extra cost to Amazon, and that will allow TTS. |

One possible improvement might be the removal of the USB socket. This would explain the solar-power charging. It would also make it easier to water-proof. Add 3g and it would make perfect sense.

A user replaceable battery would be good. If not, maybe a larger battery for even longer time between charges.

Also, there's no need to remove the USB port to waterproof it. See Aura H2O for an example.
