The reason Jeff added the open dyslexic font is because Kobo did so. Jeff didn't do so for his customers. He did it to play catch up. I don't know the reason for Bookerly. But that's the reason for the open dyslexic font. Just like the PW3 is to play catch up to Kobo because of the Glo HD.

Here is a generic cover. It's ugly and the publisher did not have to pay anyone extra $ to make this awful generic cover.

What would you think if you went to a bookstore and bought a pBook where you were able to see the cover before you bought it, but when you got home all you had on the pBook was a generic cover?

That's exactly what we get with a lot of eBooks. The eBook stores show us a proper cover and if the eBook doesn't have a proper cover, we won't know so until after it's been downloaded.

I see. On purchased books I let calibre look for a different cover and bookinfo. Sometimes the cover gets replaced with a higher res version (usually the same just better quality), but mostly the cover in my books is already that cover before calibre looks for it.

So Kobo did it first, so now Amazon does it. Takes away Kobo's advantage. Apparently they did not copy the more elaborate font options of a Kobo as it wasn't a good enough seller. With more options come more bugs and more money on CS.

Maybe... he's the guy who does know best for me!

Or maybe he is just the guy making a product that matches the needs of a specific group. You are a different group -- stop whining.

I don't use the Kindle software, I don't use a Kindle. I just gave a reason why I don't use either and why I apparently belong to a different group.

Luckily, there are plenty of other options to read books, so I won't complain to him, I'll just not use it.

Many Random House (Ballantine, Del Rey) often has a generic cover. Harper Collins does as well. See the attachment for an example I have *many* books published by the Random House and HarperCollins groups that originally came with a generic cover.

Often the book shows up in stores with a cover, but downloads without one.

You may not care about the cover, but other (including myself) do care.

Yes, Kobo did it first and Amazon copied. Amazon is not being inovative. They are just copying what Kobo does because Kobo does it first and sometimes better. Even though the Kindle has a dyslexic font, you cannot adjust the weight so there is where Kobo does it better.

There are no bugs in the font handling and the formatting adjustments of Kobo Readers.

I always remove the generic covers, that come with some books, and replace them with better covers.

I do care, that is why I replace the covers on purchases if it needs replacing (usually only a higher res version). I just don't care to have to see the cover after I already picked out my book to read.

That is not what I hear. Kobo SW used to be pretty unstable, or so they say. Probably never going to have first hand experience until they offer to read Amazon DRMed books on Kobo.

Exactly. Isn't it wonderful that nobody is FORCED to buy from any particular vendor?

How odd, because I am pretty sure you did whine. (Not to Jeff Bezos, but then I never suggested you did...)

The software can be unstable, but as far as font handling and rendering, it is pretty good. Kobo lead the way with customization and render quality, compared to Kindle.

I like Kobos balance of customization vs software problems.

IMO.
