LOL, true. I now have 847 books in my library, including 57 Delphi Classics. I think the Delphi Classics alone would last me 25 years if I should read everything in it.

PM me if you need an old(er) version of K4PC. I have 1.12 or 1.14 archived. I don't know the exact version on top of my head. edit: Missed the post where you said it was already solved.

I have 985 books in my calibre library, 485 of which came from Amazon and the rest are either other vendors or public domain. I have a nasty habit of buying books that I simply must have NOW. My impulse control is non-existent. I do believe I have enough interesting books to last me a lifetime if I never bought another one.

Using that terminology: Reverse engineered means that the decryption code has been examined and the source of the encryption key has been found, and the algorithms used to decrypt the ebook. Then it's just a question of using the known encryption key with the known algorithms to remove the encryption permanently. Cracked would mean that the encryption algorithm is known, but the key is either too short, or there's some flaw in the encryption scheme, so that the ebook can be decrypted without knowing how the key is normally obtained. With the former, knowledge of the key is essential. Without it, even though the algorithm is known, the encryption cannot be removed. With the latter, the key either isn't needed, or can be discovered by an exhaustive search in a reasonable time. Advances in computer power mean that several encryption schemes are now cracked - one example being the old WEP encryption on Wifi. And closer to home, old Mobipocket ebooks had 8 character encryption keys with a limited character set, and even on a modest home computer can be exhaustively searched in a couple of weeks. |

With paper books, I would never have done that.

After reading from you guys here to stay with ADE 2.0, I uninstalled the newer one I just installed, 4 something. I only use it for harlequin books and the newer version was working fine. Unfortunately, the experiment did not go very well. Took me like 2 hours to get it to work again with the newer one. I could never open those as file-thingies files with the 2.0 one. Just would not do anything, no matter what I tried. Uninstalled and installed 4.something again and its working again. Well as good as it gets, still making bunch of duplications in the library for some reason. And sometimes it doesn't "find" the program. For now it works with harlequin.com books and once it doesn't anymore, I guess I am done getting any kind of epub. They are nothing but trouble on my computer. I am stuck with the new version of ADE. eta: Sorry, I don't know all the numbers and file names off hand right now. On smaller netbook at the moment. It shouldn't be so hard to get my own darn books and keep them. But I am so very thankful to those removal tool gurus. I don't want to buy books if I can't read them on my kindle and I also want to actually own my books. |

As for your ADE trouble, remove version 4.x and with regedit, remove all the ADE entries. There could be something left behind that's causing the problems. Once that's done, install ADE 2.0.1, register it, and hopefully all will be well. Oh and one other problem, you might had to remove the key from the DRM tools because the key that you used with 4.x might not work with 2.0.1.

I have no clue what regedit is, and gogling the term tells me its not something I should ever be touching with a 10 foot pole. I never put any key in anywhere in the tools, even if I knew how to do such a thing. I only use some epubs from the harlequin site and have no intention to ever touching any on any other site. I'll just stick with what works now. Its always best for me to stick with something when it works as I just don't know enough about things like that to fix anything.
