Part of the changes Amazon made in version 5.6.x to disable our earlier jail break method.

Things have changed as of 5.6.x. Might want to read NiLuJe's thread. See under the subtitle "EVEN MORE IMPORTANT notice regarding FW >= 5.6.0."

*Why* does kindlefere.com/jb work without having to be 'a'. Is it just weird luck that the exact domain name, kindlefere.com, triggers the same weirdness as browsing to 'a', or did the JS trigger have to be modified somehow to accommodate a different domain name?

Or is the whole domain name switch unecessary, and hosting the jailbreak html/JS file anywhere sufficient?

I thought I would add my two cents to this thread. I successfully Jailbroke my Kindle Voyage B013 0907 (FW 5.6.5) then installed the following in order:

1. NiLuJe’s hotfix (Update_jailbreak_bridge_1.14.N_install.bin)

2. KUAL (KUAL-KDK-2.0.azw2)

3. Mobile Package Installer [aka. MRPI] (kual-mrinstaller-1.6.N.zip)

4. NiLuje’s Screensaver Hack (Update_python_0.14.N_install_pw2_kt2_kv_pw3.bin) and (Update_linkss_0.24.N_install_pw2_kt2_kv_pw3.bin)

At this point everything worked fine. I then upgraded my Voyage with the latest Amazon firmware (5.7.2) and found that the Screensaver Hack no longer worked. The Jailbreak and KUAL were intact. I reinstalled the Screensaver Hack while under FW 5.7.2 (step 4. above) and everything now works fine.

Thanks to all those who helped make this possible. Much appreciated.

Choice two.

The js scripts could quite possibly be included in any website page.
That was the reason for the 4 month wait while Amazon fixed things.

that is wrong, which is why it didn't work on your domain

That's leaves me stumped then.. I downloaded all the files from kindlefere and compared them to Branch Delay package, and they were all identical. But when I tried hosting the files on my own domain, it didn't work. Kindlefere worked perfectly, however.

I am going to assume choice one: there is some magic involved in the hostname, which works with "a" and coincidentally with kindlefere as well.

I just Jailbroke my Kindle PaperWhite 2 (S/N 90D4 2204 ...).

To host the files myself, without setting up DNS, I followed these simple steps (using the script create_ap and the command # python2 -m SimpleHTTPServer 80 to serve the files).

I tried mj52's method. Going to kindlefere.com/jb/ doesn't work on the Kindle. Works on my dad's Chrome. I'm using a KT2

Please give more details than "doesn't work".
What did you do, what was the result, at each step of the process.

Actually, it did work -
but only for 109 people in 24 hours, with 5 times as many malicous connects.
So I took it down as not worth the trouble, cpu, ram, bandwidth, etc.

I can always put it back up if required.

Worked with "kindlefere.com/jb" website.

I was starting to wonder if url has to match hash or something? That is why most domains or ip addresses would not work? Something that must match one that url of a works for.

Worked for English pw2, 9017 2201 x x.
