Calibre crashing when used

Hi, I have been using Calibre for a very long time, but this is the first time I have encounted a major issue with the program. I am on a Windows 10 laptop, and suddenly I cannot use Calibre for at most a few minutes without it crashing(i.e. it stops working and is non-responsive, I have too use Task Manager to exit the program), but mainly until I try to use the interface in any way. I have reinstalled, updated, restarted, used without other programs running, but too no avail. Please someone help, I find myself with jitters without my books.

Calibre Occasionally Crashing

I had this problem last week, 'out of the blue,' and followed this advice from the manual . . .

"If none of the above apply to you, then there is some other program on your computer that is interfering with Calibre. First reboot your computer in safe mode, to have as few running programs as possible, and see if the crashes still happen. If they do not, then you know it is some program causing the problem. The most likely such culprit is a program that modifies other programs’ behavior, such as an antivirus, a device driver, something like RoboForm (an automatic form filling app) or an assistive technology like Voice Control or a Screen Reader. The only way to find the culprit is to eliminate the programs one by one and see which one is causing the issue. Basically, stop a program, run Calibre, check for crashes. If they still happen, stop another program and repeat."

Rebooting my laptop computer (Windows 10) seemed to show that the OS was updating. I also re-installed the latest version of Calibre. Trying Calibre with nothing else running worked just fine after that, but then all continued OK after I gradually resumed my usual software.

So I never did discover the exact cause, but am very, very relieved. Can imagine being without my ebooks and Calibre . . .
