Can someone help me? I installed the program:
.app file in system/bin/ and applications/
cr3/ folder in system/share/
and added to the config file this line: epub:@EPUB_file:1:cr3-pb.app:ICON_EPUB

I wanted to try it only for epub, but it's not working. I tried restarting the reader, but it still opens the default program. Launching it from the menu says "no book to open", so it works.

Edit: I deleted some config and cache files in the system folder, not it works Is it possible for the status bar to be shown at the bottom? All I want is the page number down there, like the default program.

Edit 2: Is the program using another type of partial refresh? When comparing with the default one, in cr3 the letters from previous pages are more visible and the letters on the current page are slighly "worn off" in some places.

I have similar problem: losing citations and reading position. Never mind about positions, but I usually mark quotes during reading and losing them is really annoying.

In my case, though, it doesn't depend on time passed since last opening of the book. I suspect it occurs when I open two (or more) books and mark quotation in both during a single session (I mean between switching the device on and off). It happens quite often, but not every time.

I think I've found a workaround, though it's rather inconvenient. When I mark some quotes in one book, I close it and then power-off the device. After turning it on again I can start working with another book and the quotes in the former one stay intact.

I suspect that too, as I also switch between books in one session. It's really annoying.

Hi,

just turn off partial refresh ("Never use partial refresh" or something like that - I use non-English menu) so the program will always fully refresh the page.

Yea but I don't want full refresh on every page I usually set it on 5 or 10 pages, but in cr3 the letters slightly fade.

I've set the partial refresh to always (and configured one tap area for a manual refresh should it be needed). Several fonts then indeed seem to 'crumble' after a number of page turns, but that problem disappeared for me when I changed some of the font settings: make fonts bolder by 0.5, set anit-aliasing off, and set gamma to 3.0. You can experiment a bit with these settings until you find the ones that suit you best.

Maybe the cache is cleared (system/state/cr3/.cache/). That would explain why the position and notes are gone at the same time. Or maybe you move/rename the book.

I never had this issue and I'm using CR with the same cache for a while now. I even backed it up when switching from Basic Touch to TL2 and from TL2 to TL3.

Or maybe the quoting stuff is breaking the cache.

CR stores reading position and highlights in the .cr3hist file. It is ok when there is only one instance of CR (its intended use). I assume when you switch the book you run another instances of the CR. Every instance saves reading position and highlits at exit and overwrites what was saved by another instance i.e. only last one's data will be preserved. To fix this someone will have to implement another storage mechanism allowing record level access to the data like db or some interprocess communication so that only one instance would write the data.

That must be it. It often happens with books that have not been moved.

hi,
I have exactly the same problem you have: installed cr3 on my InkPad 840 v5.11, but I can't open books with cr3, only default program.
Can you tell me how did you solved? which file did you delete?

Thanks

Different problem

I must be a different problem. I was reading a book and put the reader in standby mode. I didn't switch books and this morning my reading position was lost again.
Until now, I didn't find a pattern for this bug, but it occurs quite often.

I'm not sure, but think it was system/config/handlers.cfg. This is the file that remembers with what program you opened a book, default - fbreader - adobe. Sadly, there is no option to reset it, only to delete the file.
I also deleted something in system/cache, but I don't know what and I think the config file deletion should work. If it's not that, I can't help you :/

What are those .bmk files for, then?

So it would be nice if CR could prevent additional instances from starting.

Database? I haven't done that for a while but I believe that basic file locking would be sufficient in that case.

As far as I remember these are highlights (bookmarks) in .txt format. They are exported at CR3 exit. If you don't need them, you may set crengine.autosave.bookmarks to 0 in the cr3.ini file to turn this export off. (Not sure if this setting still works or not).
