I'm not a reader but I do manage my wife's eBooks. I use Calibre to keep all books. My wife does not like to have more then 3-6 books on her reader at a time.

I have about 100 books and magazines on my voyage at this time. I am normally switching between between 3 - 5 books/magazines at any one time. I will load the entire series of books that I am reading when there is a series. And I am always got tech books, bibles, and devotionals that I am reading.

Keep them on my ereader. I know I can download them again, but what happens if there is a zombie apocalypse and the cloud goes down?! One must have good reading material until the end.

I hope that you keep a local backup as well as keeping them on your reader. Drives can and do fail.

Few months back, I lost about 5000+ books after my laptop HDD failed. Fortunately, I had backed up my library on the cloud. After that, I copied all to my reader too, and now I do not delete any book (unless a real bad one!) even after reading them. Although it becomes a tedious job to select your next 'to be read' book on a jumbled reader, but it is better than becoming 'bookless' at times.

For easy access and backup I store all my books on my android tablet as well as in Calibre. It's my regular reader for image heavy books and PDFs and my reference reader for quickly looking up something in a book as Calibre Companion does a great job of keeping my books unjumbled.

With my standard reader I delete after marking the book as read on Calibre or CC (for both storage and organizational reasons).

And mark Read in Calibre.
I'm trying to figure out how to do that in Calibre. Can you tell me how to do that please?

There's an example in the following blog post

http://blog.calibre-ebook.com/2011/1...m-columns.html

as to how to set up a Yes/No 'Read' column

You might want to post in the Calibre forum if you need additional help.

I have all my books in calibre and I check them off as I read them, maybe I will reread them some day.

I purchase about 95% of my books from Kobo, those I mark as finished and leave on my reader. Anything from another vendor, I delete.

I manage all my books with Calibre and just load batches of books that I think I might want to read in the near future onto my Kindle - probably about 40 books or so on the reader at any given time, so I have a fair few to choose from.

I only have one particular Collection on the reader and that is named Read. Once a book is finished I move it to that collection. I rarely delete books.

I do have a Read custom column in Calibre but I can forget to update that so I can refer to my Read Collection on the reader to tidy things up.

Before I began using the Goodreads reading challenge (I only started that for 2015) my Read Collection was the only reliable way for me to assess my reading progress.

Agree; I do the same, but I only have 10 books on the reader, in addition to what I'm reading now.

I have that in Calibre. A book can be in two or more years
