Hi there, "Other"! I'm one of the *other* other Deb's. For a name that isn't all that popular out in the real world, we're getting quite a collection here! Well, at least 3 of us. Maybe more. I did see a graph of name usage, and Debxxx was most popular in the 1950's. I'm 2.5 to 3 years older than you ... so we're basically from the same decade! Wonder about that 3rd Deb.....

midlife degree-getters rock!

Wow, OtherDeb, you sound like me! I got an MD degree in 1984 and thought Iwould just be an autodidact after that. But when the medical climate in Philly destabilized in the mid-90's, and I was dealing more with politics than patients, I felt unfulfilled. I had a definite midlife crisis in my late 30's/early 40's and as a result:
1.got married
2. started working toward an MA in Jewish Studies

My MA thesis (which is now my book) was completed in 2005, and I graduated in 2006. The whole process took about 8 years, and I loved every minute of it, even the night classes where my dinner was a cup of tea and a bag of pretzels from the vending machine, and the marathon week-long classes of eight hours a day (for which I used vacation time when I was working full-time).

You go, girl!
