Another Kindle Newbie

Hi

My name is Deb, and I received my Kindle for Christmas. So far I'm loving it! I've already downloaded a couple of books, including the Kindle Cookbook, which is how I found this site.

I'm looking forward to reading more with my Kindle, and since I'm starting back to school in February (decided to start working on my degree at the ripe old age of 49) and hope that I may be able to find some of my textbooks available.

Hello to all!

Wow you are lucky to get one for christmas! Whoever got it for you must have ordered it early!

As for textbooks, some are available digitally, but not many. Find out who publishes them and go on their website. I can tell you it won't be much cheaper at all than a regular textbook. A bulk of the cost is publishing costs and fees. BUT you won't have to lug them around all day

Welcome Deb! Hope you enjoy it here!

Lilac your goal sounds interesting... difficult however. I have read Jane Eyre and plan to attempt many others on that list, haven't read the whole list though! I am going to count how many I have read and keep track. Thanks for the inspiration.

And Deb, many books are available for free, here and on feedbooks if they are in the public domain. (Many are on Lilac's "ambitious" list.) There are many classics available if you are interested. Do you like the Kindle Cookbook? I was thinking about getting it.

Hello to all!
Darlin' 49 is not "old" around here.

Used to live in Glendale, myself (long before that in Silverlake and Westwood). What part of the Valley are you in??

I have read at least 1 so far, Jane Eyre. I plan to read a few by Jane Austen, Little Women, Wuthering Heights, and Alice and Wonderland. I don't know everything thats on there because I didn't read the whole list. I am tempted to print it out but I don't think I will seeing as it would be A LOT of pages!

It might not actually be that many, maybe 20? I don't have the excel file on me, otherwise I'd see what the print set would be.

Thanks for making that list. I made a couple of my own now that I figured out the google docs. One for books I read in 2008 and ones I plan to read in 2009 and beyond.

I was totally surprised when I unwrapped it! I hadn't told anyone I wanted one or anything! And yes, he ordered it a couple of months ago I think he said.

Thanks for the advice on the textbooks. Once I know what books I need, I'll check the publishers sites. I don't particularly care if they are less expensive, its the not having to lug them around that appeals.

Nah, I guess not, they say age is all in your head, so I guess I'm about 14!!

I'm in Burbank, born and raised, so Glendale is real familiar and I love Silverlake. Haven't been to Westwood in years.

Love the Hamster Pirate!!

Thanks for the welcome. I do like the Kindle cookbook, for $3.99 its worth it just to learn the little tips and tricks that aren't in the user manual. That's how I found this site, and it mentions Feedbooks as well. I've downloaded a couple of things from some of the free sites. I'm planning on getting some of the classics as well.

I'm really hoping that there will be more magazine added over time. I buy way to many of them and they pile up. I'd rather have them digitally so I don't have piles of them everywhere!

I ended up getting the Kindle Cookbook and have found some tips useful already. I haven't read the whole thing yet. I have downloaded many classics. I could go on a trip for a year and still have stuff to read! Hope you like your Kindle!

Thank You

Thanks for the kind words about my book, and I'm happy you found this board. I've learned a great deal from the people here and I am sure you will also.

Kind regards,
