Amazon doesn't restrict their Kindle releases to only Oct and Nov.

I think if they are going to upgrade the Voyage this year, early Q2 is entirely possible. (May/June) But then again, I'm also wondering if maybe it just isn't possible to improve on perfection.

When the first rumors about the Voyage came out (the Ice Wine rumors) Techcrunch said we were supposed to get it in the summer. The device was delayed until fall, possibly due to production issues.

And then we got the new Paperwhite in the summer.

I don't know about safe but it would probably be a good bet.

I think it unlikely that Amazon would launch a new Kindle model in the last three weeks of December.

I know 6" screen has been the Kindle standard for a while, but after seeing the slightly larger 6.8" Kobo screen in person, I have to say I wouldn't be against Amazon doing this in a future model. If they could make the screen bigger without increasing the overall size of the Kindle by too much, that might make me upgrade in the future.

If Amazon did, I suspect there would be a lot of returns from Kindles bought when on sale.

If that was the case, then they'd have that problem after every new release, since Amazon almost always puts the existing Kindle models on sale just before releasing the new model.

I bought another K4 for $49, and a second PW2 for $79, RIGHT before the Voyage released. I was tempted to return the Paperwhite (because I really wanted the voyage), but I pretty much knew what I was doing when I bought it, so that's on me. So I gave the PW2 to a family member as a gift (a nice ON SALE gift ) and bought myself a Voyage.

I don't have much interest in a larger screen but I'd be very interested in a smaller Kindle with a smaller screen. Something with a 5" screen that would fit in a shirt pocket like a phone would be ideal for me.

I do carry a phone in my shirt pocket even though it has no service. It's mostly there for those times when I'm away from my Kindle and get a few minutes to read. It has a great screen but it's LCD and I'm limited to about 15 or 20 minutes of reading before my eyes water. And yet I find I enjoy reading on it as much as on my Kindle. Maybe more.

If I had something like that with e-ink it would be the only thing I'd need.

That was one of my BIGGEST wishes before I got my new iPhone. Before then, the only pocket size Kindle I had was my 5th gen iPod Touch. It was handy, but the screen was a little too small for enjoyable reading. I desperately wanted a "pocket Kindle".

But this year I got an iPhone 6 Plus, and the screen is so big that I'm satisfied with my reading experience.

However, I do agree with you. It would be SO nice to have an e-ink pocket Kindle.

Well, this is what was announced. Maybe why no new voyage this year.

Hope this is ok. New Amazon fire hd8 reader edition. Interesting but will keep using my Voyage. This fire looks too big and heavy for me.

Interesting that they are introducing this so close to Christmas. Hope it doesn't mean the end of the kindle eink line is near.

It's not a new device, from what I can see. It's just a bundle of an HD8, a cover, and a subscription to KU.

True, but that's just a firmware feature which Amazon have said will be rolled out to other devices. It's a standard Fire HD8 from what I can see; it just has slightly tweaked firmware.
