Problems with FBreader

Hi again:

I am trying to read my RSS feeds in the iliad 2nd edition. I get my feeds through feedbooks and the newstand program. I chose the epub format, and I installed the fbreader from this link https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20490 to read them in the iliad.

For example, with the engadget feed:
When i press the "Dot" or "Enter" Button, to show the Table of Contents, it gives me a page with all individual news listed, but with no description, just a list with the words:
Feed
Feed
Feed
Feed
and so on.

It would be very useful to read the title of each new. How can I get this to work that way?

By the way, my software version is 2.12 and Software build number: 21201

Thanx!

FBReader does not currently read the toc.ncx table of contents from an ePub. From FeedBooks, try MOBI instead. This should have a good TOC.

In either case (ePub or MOBI), if I remember the default key bindings correctly, a long arrow press should get you to the next "section" (TOC entry).

It worked with the mobi format!!!

So I tried to convert a html file with bookdesigner to a .mobi file (because this feed doesn't work in feedbooks, I got it on my own)...

But all I have got after the conversion is a .prc file (not .mobi), and when loaded into the iliad, there is no table of contents.

Any suggestion to get the table of contents kind of automatically from this html?

Thank you again.

FBReader will generate a TOC for a HTML file, and this seems to work ok in this case. If you are using the internal file navigator in version 0.8.04 then use the naked HTML (or the ZIP). If you are using version 0.8.14 then see Integrated FBReader 0.8.14 with ePub and Registry Support #40 to add .zip to the registry for FBReader and then use a zipped version of the HTML.

Wait wait...

I have discovered that it works only for the first zip I open.

If I close the first and try another zip, when I press the dot button to access to the TOC, the green leds keeps blinking, the screen doesn't refresh, and the only way to get away from this is to turn it off.

God this is making me crazy

My guess is that this happens if there is no TOC. If you have a TOC, the progress bar should have lines across it for the "sections". I assume you tried to recover using the "Upper Left"/Quit Button, another possibility is a Long Press Page Bar Backward (Undo).

Based on Adam's original post, it is a short (not long) down arrow to go to the next section. I have had this fail (freeeze) when in the last section, but it is then possible to recover using the other keys.

Yes, this file has TOC (I know it because when I tried this file in first place it opened the TOC without problems), and I have that "lines" in the progress bar.

I tried that too but still unresponsive, the green led stops blinking but no refreshes.

Blinks once, but it doesn't refresh.

If I press the "Books" button, for example, the iliad "goes there" but without refreshing. You can see what I mean in the photo attached.

The "books" button, and the other three below the screen, can't be used from FBReader (because FBReader never sees these button presses and so is still running). Usually the contentlister then comes up, but FBReader won't run correctly the next time you open it.

The only way to exit FBReader is the top left quit button. If you used the quit button and the 2nd zip did not work, then I am out of ideas. It is possible to change the registration so that HTML goes to FBReader (assuming the zip is the problem), but I am wary of changing the default entries.

PERFECT!!!

That was the problem: I kept pressing the "News" button to go out and choose another newspaper to read.

Now I know that I have to press the top left button to quit the fbreader.

Thank you, now the second zip opened without problem!
